To just get your hands dirty, go to your local store and get some Miracle Grow potting soil. Plant your seeds, and establish good watering practice. MG usually has 3 month fert already in it so you shouldn't have to worry bout nutrients. Buy yourself a couple compact flourescents and keep them close to the seedlings. After you've done that, find a forum on here and just start reading. Tons of great info that will teach you loads. Good Luck.

dont need to give them nutes for atleast 1-2 weeks after becoming seedlings - and then only use a very weak solution! Never over do it with nutrients!!

germinate the seeds: 12 hours in a glass of water, then put them between moist paper towels and keep in a warm, dark place!

you can use peat pellets to start your plants off with, and then transplant them into canna coco mixed with a little perlite.

Train them under a CFL for 2-3 weeks. Also, have a moving fan, lightly blowing wind on them to give them good stems.

although grobo says get mg soil i think most wouldnt recommend that because you cant control the nutrients and the seedlings and the small shoots dnt need that much in the way of food for first few weeks and if you get nute burn theres no way to stop it because the nutes are in the soil, but if you went with some normal soil and bought the nutes if you start to see nute burn you can reduce the amount of food you give them.
make sure to get some perlite in that soil for good drainage

While I did say get MG it doesn't mean I recommend it. MG is easy for new growers, as most tend to overfert. Only water is needed. Any seedlings of mine back in the day always did fine in MG. As for my recommendation FFOF and Happy Frog 50/50.
