help me

when growing in a deep water culture system do you want to fill the water where it reaches the net pot housing the hydroton and rockwool plug causing moisture to boost root growth, or can i just plant the seeds in the rockwool plugs, close them up, moisten the plugs with a spray bottle, and only fill the buckets with water once roots have developed to save energy not using the pump and airstones waiting for the roots to break before filling?

so i need to fill the buckets even before the beans pop from the plug?

also, i thought the place i got this from said it was prewashed? i still need to wash it? also when i open one of the bags it seemed like moisture had got in there was a few pebbles stuck to a slimey liquid that just looked like dissolved hydroton, is this from moisture, bad clay, or what?

ps: im waiting on some more hydroton to be delivered cause i can't get it from my grow shop anymore, i only bought 4 lbs and i was about 3 lbs short on filling all the net pots , will this cause a problem?

how far would you say i should fill them? 3/4 maybe a little more? (the buckets and water i mean) also if i use tap water that runs through a brita water filter should i still dilute the tap water with peroxide to kill chlorine and other chemicals and to promote oxygenation of the water from the airstones? just like 4 or 5 drops in each 5 gallon rez?

last but not least,
my beans will pop from being in a moistened rockwool plug right? like i really dont need the water until the roots start pushing thru the plug and the net pot because until then roots wont touch the water anyways? right?

sorry for the confusion, its just all my previous grows have been from soil.. still trying to get the hang of this hydro non-sense. but its coming 2 me quickly. i'm really starting to appreciate the art of hydroponics.

Soil is my go to right now. yes wash the shit out of your hydroton. The clay will lower you ph. I dont know what the residue is. all the more reason to wash it.

Another thing, the tent i have my hydro setup in, it doesn't have a cool tube or a closed air cooled reflector, its just your standard gull-wing reflector, and the temps are about 90 degrees which currently (from experience) won't prevent bean popping and sprouting because my first 2 grows (tho successful) were not planned the best and had very high temps, but i pretty much got the hang of things now but until i find the money in my budget to replace this reflector i'm going to have to rely on afro-engineering to control the temps. i have a 440cfm blower with a floor mount and plenty of duct, if you have an idea that will help me i'm all ears. i have 8 seeds planted today getting ready for next gen. 3 afghan kush, 1 blue dream, 4: AK-49, so i need to get my setup taken care of asap. the hydroton has already been ordered and the netpots will be properly filled within the week. The temperatures on the other hand could pose a problem. of course i can use frozen bottle of water to cool the rez but the outside temps around the buckets could b an issue.

also, thanks for the help so far i do appreciate any and all advice. i've been growin a few years now and its a hobby that though you learn as you go, is obviously a hard thing to master. i can tell its something i will cherish for a long time. its one of the only hobbies i'm able to stick with, it poses an actual challenge. and a good result = good benefits. I just wanna do right by my babies and i don't wanna lose anything female ever again. my girls are like my kids.

Best way to do dwc is have multiple pots and a basin. float ice water bottles in the basin so you don't disturb the bubbles(assuming you are hot). I think I have a few friends on here that could help you better than I.

I would definitely disagree...
IMHO I believe that 1 plant per tub/bucket is best, it prevents root tangle and makes reservoir changes a bit easier.... As for "not disturbing the bubbles", Do you even know what you're talking about? It is actually surface agitation that adds dissolved oxygen to your water, not air bubbles.... Do you think that those bubbles somehow "pop" under water and replenish the oxygen? And if that is the case, how come none of the streams or rivers I've seen with plants growing out of them have air stones? (I've checked!) Also, I have found that tightly wrapping your reservoir with IR blocker insulation will dramatically stabilize the temperature, used in conjunction with a frozen bottle of water and your temps should be below par!

Stick to soil Doc! Unwashed clay pellets will RAISE YOUR PH and EC! The residue is clay powder, RINSE thoroughly with WATER no soap.

Not to be a downer, but you should really read up a bit more. It seems to me, you're jumping in head first and don't have the slightest clue how to swim....Also, you shouldn't take swimming lessons from someone who can't swim.

haha well put. he was right in some cases tho, trust me i dont take hear say to biblical. but i did wash my hydroton and wrap my buckets in Mylar to reflect the light away. It seems to work well. I have 4 - 5 gallon DWC's, and each has 1 plant so no worries there. no i am not jumping into something i dont know about, i read up on this topic for months and i've gathered all the equipment i just don't wanna leave a single stone unturned i wanna make sure i ask every question even the meaningless ones that seem stupid. basically im dotting my i's and crossing my t's with this thread. im on the fast track to learning a new way to grow and so far so good. cant wait till the rest of the hydroton gets here so i can finish filling (didnt anticipate 4lbs not being enough) and then i can get this show on the road. Soil was an easy branch to learn now its on to the next one. i want to expand my roots (pun intended) can't wait for these girls to pop so i can begin to learn the ways of the Hydro Jedi. The Kush is Strong with this one.

kush is overrated!
hahaha, i just hope my beans pop properly. this is my first hydro grow so obviously ive never tried popping beans with rockwool plugs, but i looked into it and alot of people say it works well so i thought id try it. i have never liked germinating so i just plant them and let the medium pop them

I tried that and honestly I prefer jiffy pops

You should go back to soil. DWC is not forgiving. Fast grow, fast die. And you want sprayers at the top in the beginning. Also when roots long enough raise pot until you have roots in water 9 inches below the pot. This takes time. But not too much.
Go back to soil. Tastes better.
If tempted by the high yields a few people get? Don't. Go back to soil. And you can yield over 2 pounds per 1000 watt light in soil.
