In March I incquired about switching internet providers to CenturyLink from my current ISP.

I never said that I wanted it and that I already had internet and just wanted to see how much it cost.

I got an email from centurylink saying how much it would cost monthly and that I did not need to reply to the email.
so I didnt...

I never received a modem from CenturyLink and never received a bill from them either.

I got a call from IC Systems(a collection agency) stating that I owed CenturyLink $275... I HAVE NEVER EVEN USED IT, NOR EVEN HAD THE BOX.. I JUST INCQUIRED ABOUT IT... NOW I OWE THEM WTF?

what the fuck do i do? i am not throwing away basically a weeks worth of work for fucking nothing.

Probably a fuck up, try calling centurylink and getting to the bottom of it, the collector don't know shit except that centurylink says you owe them money. I just had a collector call me last week for a 40 dollar bill for an eye exam that I took like a year ago. Still had the receipt showing I paid, the eye place forgot to mark it as paid.

centurylink needs to straighten that out for you. try to get their corporate number and talk to someone there. a random csr isn't likely to have the access or training to help with something like this, unless centurylink has it together better than the isp i worked for (unlikely given the current situation).

what the hell information did you give them? i can't imagine how they would even look up your "account" if you never initiated service, or what exactly you could have been charged for.

the pitfalls of dealing with people who work on commission...it "could" be a random mistake, but i'd bet that the csr with whom you spoke was trying to pad their numbers to avoid being fired for low performance. that shit was rampant in the company i used to work for.

This is the Internet version of slamming....changing your service to another provider without your knowledge. Like head said, they are probably getting pressure to sell, and some folks will do that anyway they can so their stats look good.
