Hey guys, first grow here...

I am using Deep Water Culture tanks with 2 air stones each 18 gal.

Left tank is filled until half way up the net pots. PH is 5.7 ppm is 850 (200ppm hard water). I am using GH nutrients for hard water.

Right tank is filled until an inch above the net pot bottom. Its PH is at 6.1 and ppm is 500 (200 hard water). Using same nutrients.

The room is setup as follows, 6oow sealed HPS lamp, 6in exhaust. Temps from 65-80f air, around 70f water, Humidity of 30.

Plants are:
The Hog
Headband
Blue Dream
Grand Daddy Purple

The photos are in order by date taken from 3 weeks ago until today, the latest photos with the larger green plants were purchased 3 days ago.

They look a little over watered and over nuted.

18 gal totes usually use about 7 gals of water to maintain a proper level. But to be sure just have about a 2 inch space between the water level and the bottom of the net pots. The bubbles from the airstones will keep the hydroton nicely moist even with the air space. As for as the nute issue goes. Maybe just give the system some phed water for a few days at the proper level then go from there. It is way easier to recover from under feeding than over feeding.

And I just noticed your pong cups are clear blue. The roots may have gotta a bit light pruned. Clear cups are a good idea so you can watch the roots grow. But always put the clear cup inside of another cup that is not clear. Keeps the light away from the roots. Then all you have to do is lift the inner cup to check on root growth.

The roots look very healthy in the cup, it is gone down to the bottom and has started filling the bottom of the cup, but it isnt growing up, just down!

The General Hydroponics website http://www.generalhydroponics.com/calculator/index.html states my ppm should be 880 for mild growth. Should I use their recommendation or should I be at a different PPM?

You also might want to move the air pumps out from under the lights, the hot air might be making your rez temp high. What is your water temp at?

I dont have a precise reading but its defiantly cooler then room temp. best guess would be in the 60- 70's

Ok, I did what you guys asked me to do, I reduced the nutrient solution to 500ppm yesterday. I also reduced the water level to 2-3 in below the pots. I did check the water temp this morning it was 78f which was very high, but I believe it was because I had the top off the res for an hour. All the rock wool is still moist, is that bad or good?

Ive basically given up here, I went out and bought 9 gallons of distilled water and threw it in one of my tanks, after flushing my plants in the solution it reads 005ppm, it was 000ppm when I started. I am now running without nutrients in one tank.

I am now going to eliminate the question of:

Contaminated Well Water
Too Many Nutrients
Bad Nutrient Mixture
Over Watering

How long until I should expect to see improvements?

I hope I dont have to start a new thread tomorrow....

I decided to check on the root ball of some of my plants to see how it was doing, It is completely dry. All the hydroton around it is dry as well, I dont believe the plant is getting enough water, The net pots being 2 inches away doesnt make sense unless there are roots in the water or atleast down far enough for some of the roots to drink water. I decided to raise the water level so that it touches the pot, The roots are still a good 2 inches away from the bottom so it isnt making contact and shouldnt make the rockwool damp as a result. I hope this will help boost my plants performance.

OH yeah one of my reservoirs are using air curtains not air stones, dont know if that makes a difference.

The bubbles from your airstone should keep the hydroton nice and moist even with the airspace. If not then you need a better stone or bigger pump.
