help me questions newbie??

ok i got a my hydro system running my question is if the temp at the surface is 90 degrees will it hurt the small plants. even if the water is much cooler in the resovoir,, and using 400 watts hps light how close does it need to be to the plants when they are young,, it has a dimmable ballast but i dont know if i should be running full power like half power untill flowering??? any tips appreciated

Dont flower with hps, definitely will cause problems with canopy of 90, and if you switch to mh bulb like you should then it depends how young. If really young then 3 feet away for metal halide. Any ventilation going on?

ithink you should use hps for flowering, much better results

Nothing wrong with using a HPS for Veg, just don't get all the advantages as using a MH.. I am using my 150W HPS throughout my entire grow.
400W should be quite a bit further than normal since you have seedlings.. MH bulbs tend to produce more heat too..
But your hand under the light. The back of your hand facing the light.. If it burns or is quite warm, you know to move the lights up.. Good luck

I'd say with the temp problems get some PC fans bringing air in near the bottom of the grow area at least.. There's a lot on the grow room design part of this forum. check it out!

Total bullshit. Use HPS. Where in hell did you read this crap? Use the right light and cool the place. Sweet Jesus.

If buying ONE light to do your entire grow with then choose HPS all the way. Those who advocate otherwise read up on various utilization of the light spectrum by the plants and the light spectrums provided by MH and HPS. Then buy the HPS when you truly UNDERSTAND and not just repeat info you heard.

oh sorry i am using a metal halide right now,,, another question is if i have a outdoor plant flowering about half way done could i take a couple of cuttings off the lower branches that really arent budding much and clone them?? or does this have to be done before flowering begins? thanks

90 is way too hot, you res temp won't help.

You need a cooled reflector and an an inline fan.

The air is cleaned by the filter, then goes through the reflector and cools the bulb then goes out and through the fan then is exhausted.

I was under the impression that MH bulbs are best for vegging and HPS is better for flowering. That is assuming temp and humidity is within proper range using a ventilation system to keep the temps down. I have two tents, one for veg and one for flower and that's how I have it set up.

I was sayinghe wouldhave problemswith a canopy at 90 degrees which istrue. the comment about bulb types is unrelated to the problems comment. Im just voicing my opinion there but the heat will be a problem
