Help! Jumping spiders in my closet

Somebody help me figure out if i should loose them or keep 'em. I have 2 spiders that I noticed were living in my closet because of a web. At first I was like oh shit! spidermites. but then I seen a spider walking and then jumping around the walls and all of my equipment so I killed it. Since then I've noticed one more but I don't think they are hurting my plant. If anything they might be helping keep bugs off my plant, if you know what I mean. Does anybody know about jumping spiders? what do they eat? If one bites me whats going to happen?

Spiders eat bad bugs. The only ones you really need to worry about are spider mites which are not really spiders but in the arachnid classification.

Spiders are excellent pest control in collaboration with snakes and owls.

I did find this though....guess she won't hold them anymore. "[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The jumping spider is probably the most common biting spider in the United States. People are caught by surprise and scared when they see the spider jump, especially if it jumps towards them. Bites from a jumping spider are painful, itchy and cause redness and significant swelling. Other symptoms may include painful muscles and joints, headache, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting. The symptoms usually last about 1-4 days.

They sound like an aggressive spider. I might need to kill it. But then at the same time it seems like he must have set up shop next to my plant for a reason. So maybe if his belly stays full he will stay the hell away from me. kind of like a pet

I don't know...they don't seem too aggressive around here...they just want to be left alone.

Every creature has a defense mechanism. How many times when a person gets punched that they punch back?

Imagine you are a small spider and a huge being about a million times bigger than you picks you up....well that is reason to be defensive LOL.

Yeah as long as you do not mess with them then they will not mess with you. That's a fact of life and spiders in general are very docile as long as the presence is the same.

Stereotypes ruin the whole experience in general. Sad but true.

Lady bugs only eat aphids and usually aphids are outdoors.

If you are not comfortable with them then let them go outside. They do have a purpose. Killers do not.

In a perfect world that would make sense, but unfortunately bugs don't have brains and will bite you simply because you rolled over in your sleep

People will do that too. That's life. Now if you had not rolled over and remembered that you shared the bed...well then there is no reason to bite is there? LOL

REALLY? That's actually good to know. Spiders do not eat lady bugs. They normally go after flies, destructive beetles, and other little leaf munchers. I really like lady bugs too.

No! Bad. Ladybeetles Aka Ladybugs, are voracious hunters esp in larval state eating upwards of 50x their body weight daily, and a ladybug can lay up to 3k eggs in her life cycle. They feed on spidermites, their eggs, thrips larval and adult forms, fungus gnats on the soil, and whiteflys. All of those in addition to your common enemy the aphid. :blsmoke: :peace:

i got a jumpin spider living among my plants and im gonna leave him there cuz he is controlling the damn gnats in the grow room. So to answer your Q. Yes leave him there and the plants will benefit from him! I think that jumping spiders even if just one one may be a great pest solution.

wow, very good to know. i'll keep the kleenex at bay if i see a jumping spider lol.

plus...when u kill a spider it rains so you should never do it anyways...

Spiders are excellent friends to plants. If they're eating the gnats, they must be doing better than whatever control you have in place, and at a lower cost no less. We're talking about the little one-centimeter, furry spiders that move about like that one girl on Heroes? Like they're all coked up? Don't worry; they don't eat much human flesh. But they'll keep the other pests down...

Shit fool, around here ladybugs infest houses in the spring time like flies! They're only cute until you see a brigade of those little red bastards in formation on your window sill poised to strike!

I had a similar infestation in early spring last year. It was FUCKING NUTS. There were al least a 100,000 ladybugs onmy ceiling. No matter what I could not keep them out. They didn't hurt anythink but I had millions of ladybug carcasses on the floor. There were so many dead beetles in the light covers that it blocked out the light anf I was afraid the lightbulbs would catch them on fire!

After about 5 days all were dead and gone though. I thought I was the only one it happened to. Like an alien ladybug queen in my roof or something. fucking crazy for sure!
