HELP, I'm new here .Basic growing facts please.. NEEDED BAD! :)

Just wanted to know... If anyone could help with some of the basic rules of growing potted plants outdoors in So. Cal. from seedliings and seeds to the harvest.
Just stuff Like the stages they go thru, how much sun, or is there periods of 24 light or 24 hour darkness??(being in the dark) ?? What to expect, or when they may start to bud.
I have a VERY LARGE vegtable garden and have been growing my own food, coffee and tobacco... soo I do have a green thumb, lol- but to my understanding these particular plants need a totally different care than my veggies.

I have several 12 inch to 24 inch plants that i inherited like 6 weeks ago,
I believe the seeds came from feminized white widow, but not sure yet.
I have them potted in pots and used a mixture of miracle grow moisture control, perlite, and a little shredded coconut substraint,The plants seen to be growing well, no spider mites, no discolor, they are good deep green color and smell great.
I put them in the sun at sunrise and bring them inside at sunset.
I usually water every other day, but not to much so the roots grow longer and stronger.

Any advice or help or links, would be soooooo appreciated.

OHHHHH by the way my name is Kerry, I am new here and it is very nice to meet you all.!

Plants are vegitatively mature when the groups of leaves no longer grow symmetrically across from each other. Anything more than 18 hours of light should cause the plants to remain in vegitative growth. When light moves to 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness, they will begin to bud. Different strains may take anywhere from 8 weeks to 14+ to harvest after moving to 12 hours of darkness daily.

These are the three books that seem to be most recommended around the forums for information specific to marijuana growing.

Bets advice I can give you is to read some of the books suggested above... most of them are available in e-book form so you can download and read right away.

as far as for lighting, they need 14 hours of light every day to keep them from going into flower. Once you feel they are big enough, or whenever, you need to give them atleast 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness to induce flowering. You will begin to see buds about 2-4 weeks after you switch to the flower light cycle.

Read, Read, Read.....
if your germinating seeds, read everything you can about germination.
your vegging, read everything about that.
read about plant problems, so when your leaf is yellowing at the tip, curling down. You know what that is, or atleast know how to find out.
your best source of information is YOU. Keep a little note book with all the key information.

thank you! thank you! thank you!
You guys are great!
.... already ordered the book! lol
i already made some adjustments just from the posts too.
thankz again ;-)

For your first grow you should take some free seeds or some cheap ones. Some strain that is is know to be easy to grow and resistant to mold and other pests. And just learn from them... It is amazing the difference between the first and the second grow to a lot of people.

Absolutly correct, my first grow was kick ass but ive always wanted to up the scale 10 fold this year i am with my 25 female clones and full grow season of growing ahead. My first and second grows were rushed and i was unprepared plus inexpeerienced as well. Learn everything off a experiment plantand you can learn the basics. Then read them books and try using organics. water and water then plant and the bacteria in the soil with the microrganisms act together and give abundant amounts of benificial insects in your soil which help in the long run. And organic is smother than using miracle grow, which was what i used my first grow but yielded a QP but shit was hot it burnt my throat cause the nutes i had. Use organics and flush and you get a good taste if you cure and dry corectly its all in the growers hands so i hope your green thumb is well and the yield is better than ever good luck man!
