Help!...headed toward more failure!

Alright I'm probably going to go into way to much detail here but oh well...
I need you guys to understand me, my situation, and how badly im struggling with growing cannabis.

My father is in his 60's years old, he had a series of strokes when i was 15 years old. They set on a very severe form of Dementia much like Alzheimers. I've battled anxiety disorders since then and been prescribed plenty of medications, all of which I stopped taking almost right away. I don't need to be medicated, just chilled out a bit. I started smoking cannabis when I was 17 and since then I've been fine. I told my doctor that I smoke and its been the only legitimate solution to my anxiety and we talked for about 10 minutes about it. He told me how he supports medical use of cannabis and that it even had been tried with dementia patients. Well I figured if cannabis could help me, it could help my father as well, even just a little. He smokes cigarettes, so i took one and made a spliff. Very small amount of cannbis, he didn't even notice. it took about 15 minutes and his eyes did glass over but he became so talkative and attentive it brought my mom to tears. It didn't last long but it did have a very positive effect on him. So we talked with our doctor and he wasn't very surprised to be honest. We all believe that cannabis can help him like it has helped me and many other people. The problem is we do not live in a state where medicinal cannabis is available so I've had to purchase it for him illegally. My mother and me are his licensed caregivers, and we have decided to set up a room in their house to try and grow cannabis. We fully understand the consequences if we were to get caught. I have been using books and this community to research everything possible but I still have had zero success, spent my last 2 paychecks on equipment, and felt nothing short of stupid throughout this entire process. I am now on my 3rd attempt.
My room: 4x3x7 Lined w/ 2mm Mylar
My equipment: Yield Master II 6in reflector, 400W MH/HPS ballast, 4ft dual T8 ballast w/ 2 econ-gro bulbs, 20 gallon res, 2 250gph pumps > attatched to (2) 2ft wands with 5 sprayers each. They sit inside of (2) 3ft long fence posts with (3) 3in net pots on each post. I have 2 fans in the room for circulation.
Here's a picture:

The first two grows were in soil. Miracle Grow, which was a mistake. They grew to about the height of the seedlings I have now (2inches?), turned yellow and died.
I figured out they died of nute burn from the MG.
Okay so on to the grow I have now....

I started out 4 NYPD in RW cubes. 18/6 Under 2 CFLs and the T8 bulbs.
They got to about 2 inches and I moved them to the aero and turned on the 400w MH bulb on 10/22. Since I moved them to the Aero they have been drooped over and not growing. It was obvious the RW was keeping them way to wet, so today I carefully pulled them out of the RW and put them into neoprene collars.
Picture of 1 of the 4 babies (They all essentially look the same right now)

So now I need to know what my next steps are going to be. I need a timer for my sprayers...What should my cycle be?
I also need nutrients....right now my reservoir is simple distilled water and lemon juice with a ph of 6.0. What nutrients should i get and when should I add them?

My main concern is I have yet in 3 of my grows to have a seedling get any taller than the one pictured, I have also never even seen a set of secondary leaves on any of my plants. I've been looking at grow journals and guys have 10-15 leaves by week 2. They are just about 10 days old and still look like most peoples do at a couple days.
As I've said I'm beyond frustrated. I just want to see noticeable growth in a plant and I cannot achieve that. :wall:

lights to far? over watering? if you overwater the roots wont grow at all. i had this problem and killed like 3 sprouts.

also keep a fan on light blowing on it. hand water it like once a day no more then that. this helped me stop killing sprouts.

also i would give as much light as possibe. 18/6 is best .. i have grown from seed 12/12 and it did fine but thats because i couldnt do 18/6 or else i would.

i got the light about 2 ft above
the rockwool was deffinitely over watering it, they're just in the collars now

How can you have 2 licensed caregivers in a non MMJ state?

Let your plants get a little bigger before moving them anywhere, they need structure to support their weight.

Being someones caregiver involves a lot of different responsibilities and caries numerous different certifications, the certifications we received were for SHC and PCW. I believe you're only associating the responsibility with MMJ states.

I'm starting to think I should scrap this aero project and move to fox farms soil and rapid rooters

i thought about saying something to you but it would have started a war. its soooo much more simple to grow in soil. i use ffof and its ph balanced. ive NEVER had a ph problem. Aero is great. I suggest that a beginner use soil first. Get you some Fox Farm soil and nutes. Follow fox Farm feeding schedule. If you decide to get the solubles use them at 1/2 strength from what the feeding schedule tells you. Take a look at my albums. All fox farm.

I'm going to keep 3 of the diesels in the aero on a single fence post...next to that I'm going to plant 3 Jock Horrors in fox farms and compare how they grow

I don't think you are giving them enough light.. if i read correctly you have seedling and are going 10/22?
I would be going at least 18/6 till they are ready to flower.

It would explain why they are not growing because for every half day of light they get a full day of darkness, which could also lead to drowning your seedling because there is no light to dry the RW

To be honest I would just go with a soil grow, I think it's the best way to start out and then move on to hydro. Soil is a lot more forgiving... unless you use MG soil that is.

I agree. You can learn how cannabis plants react, signs, symptoms etc. Everything, including problems happens much faster with hydro because they are being continuously fed.

Hey Cadeneli, what nutes do you add to your plants and when?
Is there any I should add right away to stimulate root growth?

I would give them a little bit of superthrive. at this point they are soo fucking small they don't need a whole lot of nutes. Superthrive is b1 and thiamine which boosts root growth. tiny little bottle is about $6-7 and should last you a year or to.

Next time... don't use rockwool it just hold too much water. I like to use the rapid rooter plug thing a mah-jigg-ies. Let them grow allot of roots before you transplant them into your hydroton. Like, roots sticking a good inch out on each side. Gently place them in the hydroton and fill in around them. Foliar spray with some superthrive and light nutes...something on the order of 300ppm total for a couple days. (once a day, when lights are off..Duh)

Put the light at around 24" or so the first day then move it down 2" a day if they are doing well. I wouldn't put it closer than 14" until around the second week.

if you haven't already. wash your hydroton, wash your hydroton, then wash it again.. then SOAK it in 5.8 water. Adjust to keep it 5.8, don't use it until it stays there. trust me on this one.
