HELP!!!!Fan leaves dying and i cant figure out whats wrong...

Sometime that quick, yes.

I have had some monster fan leaves shrivel up and die at about day 30, but the low low low fan leaves-- not the ones on the top colas.

It's not unusual at all.

If you see some funny activity around the leaflets surrounding the buds, however, then you will have problems, decreased yield among them.

Full circle: how do the buds look?

Are the pistils chunky and white?
how about this, my plants come on and ill take pics at 10 pm tonight. that way u can see for urself what leaves it effecting cause it not just the bottoms. Would u stop back in and look at the pics for me?

Another possibility....Did you by any chance, let them dry out to the point of drooping, right before this happened? Everytime I've let this happen, I've seen a big die-off of fan leaves, soon afterwards. I'm guessing that the plants sacrifice them, in an attempt to save themselves. If that's what happened, there's not much you can do about it, except wait for it to shed the leaves it's sacrificed, and most importantly,...don't let it happen again.lol

I didn't see that mentioned, so just wanted to put it out there. :)
Hey thanks for stopping in jaw. But no, ive never let them get to the point of dropping. Im usaully on point with my watering. Anyway thanks for the input. Ill put it in the ol memory bank.Peace...Ganja

Underwatering is another possiblity, jaw- you're dead right.

Mg deficiencies take weeks to translate into noticeable losses. By that time, your plant is already chopped.

Your lower leaves are dying because you are adding a higher ratio of Phosphorus to Nitrogen.
Say we find out it is a mg deficiencies?what do u do then? the epson salt?

Absolutely. I'll hang around.

And make sure you include pictures of your buds. The good ones.

I say this because the appearance of the buds tell a lot more than the foliage at this point-- when you are 5 weeks in.

Foliage only tells a part of the story....

Ganjaluv, when you are five weeks into flowering, you judge an mg deficiency by the appearance of the buds.

The pistils on a plant that is mg deficient look deflated, thin, and lay kinda flat.

You don't diagnose deficiencies based on foliage that is being shed naturally by the plant.

If we agree that it is mg, then give it a light foliar feeding of said proportions.

You're killing me! These plants look fucking awesome.

I didn't know your "problem" was attached to THAT thread. Sheeeezus.

Here's the deal:

Your leaf margins are cupping a bit, which could be either one or a combination of things: heat stress, primarily. Overfert is another, and lastly, MG.

but here's the deal ganja, say it's MG and you foliar feed. If the plants were just heat stressed, the leaf margins would even out because of the added moisture. So you say: "Ha. It WAS mg". Then a few days later, same shit happens again.

And I really don't think it's overfed, because you appear to be giving it a reasonable amount of food.

One thing you didn't do: prune enough.

You have a shitload of foliage. Shit is gonna die, even if you do everything right. This isn't to be confused with the potential of a lower yield. You will get LARF if you don't cut that lower shit. Lower leaves dying because of the diminishing returns of keeping it alive is not to be confused with a deficiency that truncated a yield.

I like the way you've worded that. Thank you, I'll remember than explanation, and apply it whenever possible. It's much eaiser to 'understand' things, than 'remember' things, if ya KWIM? +Rep. :)

Thanks, Jaw- I've been screaming that from the mountaintops forever and ever.

Cut that lower bullshit off.

(but not now- up to the 10th day or so of flowering for best results)

Lose those airbuds!

should i put my reg nutes in with that also or just the epson salt
what are your regular nutes? We're still waiting on that :]

personally I would do without nutes.... You only need to give the epsom salts 2-3 times max for the entire grow really.

nevermind just read your journal... I think you have too much Calcium and it's causing an antagonism with Magnesium. give the epsom salts a try. Also may wanna add some Nitrogen

LMAO. I just seen this post. I musst have missed it. So u think i got my undies all in a bunch over nothing. Its just on my other grows i never seen this happening. And when u say i have a shitload of foliage, is it still to late to trim this shitty stuff and let the energy go else where? And what should i be trimming? IVe trimmed so much off so far, i already thought i did to much. by the way what is LARF?And dude if i was just being a little bitch over this whole thing, i aplogize for wasting ur time. Ill still put the pics up

My reg nutes are GH maxi bloom and hygrozyme once a week and phd water inbetween feedings

Absolutely. Over nothing, really. Typical for a fist-time big-timer such as yourself.

You're not wasting your time. You are learning. Thankfully you have some experienced growers on here that can help, although I believe a lot of people missed or overlooked the fact that it's clearly heat stressed. Textbook example.

Now. As far as the lower leaves dying off, that's a whole different story. "LARF" is an acronym of something I forget. Basically meaning airbud. I just like using the acronym. larf larf.

No point in doing anything about the airbud sites now. Cutting em off won't make any diff, leaving the fan leaves around the larf sites to die will do nothing either.

No nothing. LOL. How is that for advice?

if you want to do something, slap some glass on those hoods. 400 watts can get pretty damn hot, too. The glass will cost you a Longhorn Dinner apiece. Squirrel cage blower, 3 nice dinners.

Ok cool. i like the word larf to. ANyway its crazy u say that about the glass cause i was just a lowes tonight and i seen that they cut glass to any size u need it. So that will be done tommorow. Is it ok to put glass in and not cool the light with air? I have a squirrel cage, i just gotta put it in.

Well, don't lower those lights until you put that squirrel cage fan in.

Remember: you're not off the hook yet. Your grow has a series of minor problems. Addressing the heat issue is the first step. An innocuous foliar application is second. Now we wait for your medium to dry up a bit in the meantime.

ok. got it. Lights are raised. Can put fan in tomorow and i will do the foliar app in the am right before my lights go off. just to be safe.

That is not a phosphorus problem it's either potassium or magnesium deficiency and this problem can be diognosed within days of overnuting. I would suggest getting a ph/ppm tester, make sure ph is around 6.5 for soil, and ppm is balanced to your plants needs. You also do not want your fan leaves to die unless they are not needed, most people cut them off anyway for super cropping purposes. But if they are dying unpurposely then your nutes,lighting,co2,temp,or humidity could be off, depending on the issue.
