Hello! Long-time shadower

I guess I'll start with an introduction, lol.

I went through the phase of partying and using recreational drugs in my high school years - mostly pot. This went on for about a year or less until I stopped it all, figuring I had tried all the strains of cannabis in my grasp - none of which I wanted to continue my life doing.

After graduating from High School, I worked in a kitchen for 6 months, pulling no less than 45 hours of work and about an hour of lunch/break (yep, that's anywhere from 0-11 minutes a day) a week. Working so much and having about ~5 hours a week with my girlfriend, I noticed my problem getting sleep.

I have a few work-related injuries: clicky knees, internally hindered wrists, and lower back pain. None aren't too life-interfering, yet I've always had trouble getting to sleep all my life - it's as if I didn't want to let go of the day that passed before me. I was getting around 6 hours max a night as I always did in school (also played 5 years of basketball), but never quite needed more when I was working.

After seeing my doctor, I tried melatonin and acupuncture for about 4 months. Neither could help much.. I found myself unable to work from the dizziness (near-vertigo) and headaches from the melatonin - 1.5mg, all the way to 5mg doses - I felt slightly hungover. I attempted acupuncture more times than I would've liked; needless to say, it didn't pull more than an hour or so of more sleep. I was sleepy and exhausted everyday, even after ending my 6 month internship.

One day I was having a cigarette with one of my old buddies. He works and has obviously quit not long after I did two or three years back. We spoke of the days we used to smoke in high school - burnin herb to the point of pure stone/baked, running from the police, girls, etc. "C'est La Vie", he said. Going from seeing him every other day to not once in 6 months, we wanted to relish the passing of those times, and spark up a small joint - it must've been not even 0.75grams. It was nice, euphoric, slightly dizzy, pain (minor wrist and back) relieving, but I discovered something profound.

I took the MUNI SF bus back home, walking back and arriving at 10pm. I laid in bed, took 2mg's of the sleeping pills, and put on my headphones paired with slow relaxing tunes like that of Dream A Little Dream Of Me by Fizgerald ranging all the way to Light Ocean Blue by Entheogenic - as I always try to do to help sleep. "I ain't gonna dream of you if I don't sleep enough, Ella" I mocked.

I couldn't remember much after laying in bed, but when I woke up, I had actually remembered plots in my dreams instead of the usual snippets, I felt like a million dollars; I had slept!

After googling instead about cannabis possibly helping with more than just cancer or depression, and more about insomnia, I decided to find more information and apply for a MMJC (is that the right term?) - I wanted to be able to use medical cannabis more legally (obviously it still isn't federally accepted, but it helps relieve some paranoia with the cops!).

It's been almost three months of trying many different strains (20+) to see which would help most with my issue, researching, weedmap'ing, etc., and still I have yet to find what exactly that strain was. And since my search inquiries about this miracle plant cannabis seem to end up on this website a lot, I figured I'd make an account! And I will be posting a few reviews soon.

:peace:

Welcome to RIU.
Right on! Im glad to hear you have the means necessary to acquire medicinal marjiuana. Insomnia had been a large wrench in my delicate gears for a long time until I started using marijuana to alleviate the symptoms. It is truly an amazing medicine. Good luck my friend.

I second that. Been using it for years along with my other medication.
Unlike you I can sleep but without the help of medical marijuana I wake and have a full blown grand mal Epileptic seizure. Now that really sucks.

This has gone on for over 30 years and I just got legal a few years ago. I was paying $400 an oz when I could find it. Funny how when you get older nobody wants to sell to you. Now I grow my own and have tried several strains. They all seem to work but I do sleep better when I smoke indica dominate bud.

it is an amazing medicine, isnt it?? It's such a shame how it is frowned upon; it's no worse than alcohol in my opinion.

:O that sounds horrible. About a month ago, I discussed growing my own in my dad's place. He also wanted to try it out again (he used it as a teen 3 decades ago) for his knees and back pain. He agreed if it was in it backyard. A week after, he tells me he doesn't want to allow it anymore :( I was butthurt... but I understand that he said he doesn't want to get in trouble for it. Not my house.

My uncle, who just turned 62, had his house raided a couple weeks ago because he had a couple of plants going in the backyard. He accidentally bumped into an officer and got an assault charge ontop of his cultivation, intent to distribute, possession of paraphernalia etc. He's facing hard time in a fed pen. Tough place for a 62 year old that never did anything to harm anyone. Don't let your dad take the risk.

Wow Kief, that's messed up man. Sounds like he lives in a tough state.

Well, I don't blame him. I'm sure you wouldn't want that either.
On the other hand if you are legal in your state and stay within there guidelines whats the chance of feds knocking at the door?
My guess would be zero because they are not interested in the small time grower who simply supplies himself. The Obama administration has said as much in what they refer to as the Ogden memo. As long as you don't supply others, no harm no foul.
