Joined RIU about a month ago and plan on starting a small cabinet grow in another 6-8 months. Thought I should read some forums on how to grow in order to increase my chances of getting some bud the first time growing.

Welcome.

I built a quick cab just a couple months ago. Using CFL and they are my Library. Fits 8 1 gallon pots so that is a reasonable library for a medical person.

I believe that we are entitled to breed cannabis as medical people. Might have to go to court on that one day but we shall see.

So hey yeah. Cabs are great. Keep cool air in low pull hot from up high and that is one of the basic ways to have healthy plants.

I am looking to do a dual 100W HPS cabinet using a 30"Wx25"Dx70"H cabinet.
(got the cabinet of cragslist for $20, and its pretty sturdy 3/4" mdf)

Will have an 8" top mounted booster duct fan with a 4"x10" register intake. If temps become a problem I plan on cooltubing the hps's. The only negative is I can't start my grow for another 8+ months :-

I was at first looking into using cfl's but the cost was reaching the level that i might as well do HID. Buying from 1000bulbs i can get the ballasts (includes ballast, ignitor, and capacitor), sockets, and bulbs for under $75 shipped to my door. They shouldn't produce any more heat than the equivalent number of spiral cfl's, and will simpler to wire up.

You got your cab for $20 US? Wow!

Oh, I am not a Cab expert in fact I went out and got a Wal*Mart special shorty and just slapped one together rather ghetto.

I wanted to share what i did and I am having hang ups on attachments. I don't see a gallery option? Huh.. new site I have to look harder.

Anyway not to compete with your efforts; Hats Off to you Edwardo Ruffian.
This is a Shorty cab around $50 at Wall*Mart. The reflective is bubble insulation. The floor is the only shelf drilled with 1/2 inch holes and the bottom of the cab doubles as a drip pan allowing in cab watering.
Two 2700 CFL bulbs and three High Energy white 120 watt equivalent CFL in a bathroom 3 light fixture. The 65 Watt security light shown gave up the ghost 2 days in. Hard to take a disassembled unit back for warranty bummer. So I got the three bulb fixture to replace it.
Just a Clone store library. There are holes cut into the top and standard "Clip Light" work lights are attached to the inside to give the 2700s a reflector each.
Two 4 inch 12V muffin fans draw air from the top. No carbon but I might have to as it can smell up the house just in veg.

I think you have a better system in mind but I thought to share ideas. That's what grow sites do best!

Your veg cab is coming together nicely. I would have to say that your plans trump mine since mine are still thoughts and wishes floating around in my head :wall: . Since my grows will be very small scale (less than 4 plants) my cabinet will be veg and flower combined. That design limitation was the final contributing factor to going with the HPS setup. I might use 4-6 cfl's to do my vegging to save power, but my major investment in a cfl setup was becoming increasingly complicated and expensive. Let me know if you start a grow journal thread i would like to follow along :-o.

Sure and if you think it will be your last effort and expense? I'd say guess again.

The insulation is held on with screws and large area washers and the plastic is so nice to use self tapping screws on.

Heat is an issue. Too much not enough. One Cool tube with a light could do well.

Don't sweat it. The day dreaming is something I did at first and you are doing then I found the grow sites and started to talk with folks like you are doing and it all got better.
Growing plants takes time and it teaches us patience.

If I can show you more ideas just ask. That's all I was trying to do and that box I made is adequate but still ghetto.

However, to make you smile today when the lights went out the stoma of the plants closed and a gush of strawberry scented air came out of the box.

When the chill of inlet air is the right difference between the heat of lights on and the cool of a few seconds after the plants will emit a rush of scent when the light switches off.
At least that is what I believe since I have never seen it with my own eyes.

Ahh moments to enjoy..

I have just wiped out all my grow threads and am in the process of opening a site of my own. I can be of help I am sure.. Just ask questions and I will do what I can or others will help to answer them.
