I am thinking about turning a old chest freezer i have into a clone /veg cabinet . I plan on putting it inside my flower room in the corner . My question is will two 26 watt cfls make the chest freezer heat up too much . it will be inside my grow room which gets from low of 58-60 and high of 80 or so . Do you guys think that it will be to hot or can i get away with adding more cfl's then two . I am just trying to keep clones alive while my other girls flower . So i have them ready to go 8 weeks from now . Adivise and thoughts welcome . This is legit grow and i have to keep a plant count of 12 in flower at any one time .

Fifty two watts of light will generate about 200 BTU's of heat. Ten punds of ice (<$3) that melts and raises the water temperature to 80 F will soak up 2000 BTU's. If you can put a fan blowing on the ice, that would help the cooling effect.

BE CAREFUL about the heat!!! It can really hurt you by making the plants go hermie (this happened to me in last years terrbile heat wave) Get a mercury thrmometer from a swimming pool supply shop (very accurate, small, and cost $10) and then before you put plants in there, turn the lamps on and see how hot it gets.

you want air exchange in there anyway...you don't want a completely sealed up space like that growing plants...it needs fresh air...so drilling a hole in the top and putting an exhaust fan on it with a few small intake holes in the bottom would suffice, and you'd probably not have to worry about heat at that point :)
