Man that homemade ex closer is bad ass please throw a pic up when they start shooting roots they look cool when they got that fish Bone look ha.

How old are your plants Heady?
One batch is 5 weeks, another batch is 4 weeks, and the last batch of C99's & Blue Widow's are 3 weeks. I'll be trimming/topping them out as much as possible before transplanting and taking as many cuttings as I can before they go. The cuttings will most likely be thrown out in dry-land plots just to see what I can get from them pretty much. Looking to do around 200 plants this season

Nice home made ez clone. I have a real one and honestly ... I fucking hate it.
haha what makes you say that mwooten? I haven't had mine long enough to see results yet but any heads up about anything would be appreciated

Heady, when are you planting in the swamp? I am ready to plant tomorrow I think. I have like 30 plants in 7 gal and 3 gal buckets. Should start growing fast with the increased pot size, Osmocote and X Nutes. I am using the grow spray which should help too.
I'll be transplanting plants in a week or two, our last frost in my area is tomorrow it's said to be. I still have to bring soil and another batch of tubes out so once they're all set n ready I'll begin the transplanting process. I'm in no rush though because my girls are already 2' tall so I'm concentrating on bushing them out rather than getting them out asap.

Be careful not to overdue the Xnutes if using Osmocote at the same time, the Osmocote in my area is 14-14-14 idk what yours is, I'm sure there are different versions all across the country but listen to your plants before adding anything on top of it. If anything I'd recommend waiting til flower to add flower nutes, I've seen plants be plenty happy with straight Osmocote. The foliar spray sounds awesome though, plants seem to love being fed both from the soil AND topically. Sounds like youre gonna kill it this year man, look forward to seein your progress! All the best...

What are you using to keep animals and pest away? The swamp is crawling with them.
I'm using chicken wire over the mouths of my tubes that'll come up around 3 feet high to protect my young girls from any rodents/deer. The next battle is the slugs, I'm grabbing some Sluggo to keep them at bay from messin my stalks up. Besides that I'll be waiting to what the plants have to say, and religiously foliar spraying Neem on top and under leaves all throughout veg. I've heard Neem works wonders systematically too, so I'll prolly be integrating some mixed with a drop of soap (used as a wetting agent since neem + water doesnt mix so well) and watering that in once a month or so.

Thanks homie! I love DIY projects in the grow room, they're so fun plus I save a lot of money for more grow equipment that I need. I like building T5 fixtures especially because they sell the straight T5 bulbs with ballasts built in so you just have to screw it on to a reflective surface. I built an 8 bulb light fixture for 1/3 the price of the ones they sell online. Can't beat it really lol

But I will def be posting updates as soon as I see roots and how long it took to see them, expect an update within 7-10 days :hump:

UPDATE:

First off I wanna thank everyone for all their input thus far, tons of GREAT info in this thread already and I'm sure there's more to come...

Second, I'd like to report that the aero cloner just gave me my first bit of hope in turning my bad luck around. It's a little past week 1 and I peeked in the res before cleaning it out and replacing the water. This is what I saw...

Roots!!

Now there are roughly 20 different strains running in this right now so I'm not sure whether the cuttings with more roots are stronger genetic-wise, if theyre placed in a more aerated location (the outer edge of the tub doesn't get such direct misting); or a combo of the two. I took pics of the most rooted cuts thus far so you can't really see the middle of the bunch, but directly above the misters roots aren't nearly as robust as the cuts near the sides. I'm thinking it has to do with aeration. Who knows though.

I mixed a slightly dif solution this week thanks to a few of you above mentioning some do's and don'ts when mixing.

Solution contains:
75% tap (chlorinated)
25% RO
minute amount hydrogen peroxide
pH down - to 5.8
a few tsp of bloom nutrient

Didn't even add the Bio root this time around either, as some think it's unnecessary. Will toss another clone-update up next week, and another continuing the whole purpose of this thread...

OUTDOOR SEASON. Been really pushing the soil thing til last minute due to last-minute swamp tube construction and a few other small things in order to make things run super smooth when the big day comes. Will be very soon my friends, very soon. Until next time...

Things are looking great. I've been MIA for a few trying to get caught up with some things grow and non-grow related. Anyway, it's funny you just made that cloner. I had one I made a while back and I just put a bunch of seedlings in. I'm hoping to see some roots in the next few days actually. I'm gonna take a few pics tomorrow at some point. Come check out my journal if you get a chance. There's not too much to see just yet, but things are gonna be looking pretty real soon if all goes as planned.

Thanks BudWhyz. haha yeah, truth is that I intended to build one like it a while back; made the pvc sprayer and ran out of money to finish the rest ($120) so I've kept it just incase I wanted to finish her. It worked out well, theyre pretty easy to make to be honest.

You get any roots on yours yet? I saw some on day 11 so you should soon as well...

Check out the link in my signature. It has pics of both the cloner and the roots starting to grow. Things are looking good. However, I do plan to re-build a better version than the one I have once clone time comes rolling around.

Awesome mate!
I've gone to the swamp this year too. Also going the blue widows.. I only have two but we'll see how they go.... Going to have to swap out from their ghetto smart pots into some ghetto swamp tubes. Keeping it all DIY right?!!

Good news! I just scoped out a few solid looking locations. I've still got to go out and inspect a little closer. I want to see how everything works out for you and next season I'm gonna make some tubes and give it a go.

Nice man, yeah always inspect up close before determining any locations. Cant tell you how many times I had my eye on a spot or wetland and upon foot decided it was def a no-go. Same works for spots you don't suspect of working out, I accidentally found one of my plots this year after I walked back behind some brush just for shits and giggles. Ended up being guerrilla paradise lol

Thanks Aussie! Hopefully our widow's do well this year... I hear great things about the strain though so I don't have too many doubts. And yes, everything DIY! It's half the fun if you ask me, plus saves extra money you can put right back into your grow. The girls love it.

Goodluck this year homie, best of luck to ya!

How is the swamp grow man? You should see mine.
It hasn't popped off yet, been training the girls inside for the past month so they really bush out when I bring em outside. My actual transplant date is going to be sometime in the next 2 weeks. I'm also doing some experiments with strains in dif spots and in dif mixes to see what works best out in the swamp. Stay tuned and hopefully I can help you get shit dialed in tight for next season :)

UPDATE:

Whatup guys! Things are getting exciting finally, sorry for the lack of updates. Doing last minute preps to make transplanting as easy and smooth as possible.

I'll cut to the chase and show you what I did today; pretty much dialed in my soil recipe and transplanted the first round of ladies to leave the nest. I'll be bringing these girls to a local site I have camo'd out with trees and brush, along with some transplanted shrubs. Gonna sprinkle some 20-20-20 all around my spot as well to deter any hikers wandering off the path that I take to enter my area. Anyways...

My Mix is made up of:

2 parts Pro Mix Bx
2 parts Grower's Mix (perlite, peat moss & wetting agent)
1 part Coco

Additives mixed in include:

BioTone Starter Plus for one batch, Osmocote (19-6-12) for another. I wanted to experiment and see how each of these did for next season.

Mycorrhizae (palletized)
Cow manure (1 part for every 5 parts soil)
Dolomite Lime

I forgot to take a pic of the Osmocote but you can find it here:http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/1003559...specifications

I transplanted into 5 gal grow bags for this local site because I'm using it to cut numbers down from my 2 main sites. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, right?

View attachment 2718956I ran out of room in my closet and grow cabinet so I tossed extras in another room for the time being. I'll toss some pics up real quick of the rest of the grow, you'll be able to spot out which are going outside first because they're in a grow bag. I love these things because theyre cheap and theyre pretty damn tall if you don't fold the tops over all pretty-girl like. It's like a 5 gal swamp tube!

Tomorrow I'll be prepping the site with 6 ft stakes to tie these grow bags off to so they don't tip over. I'll also be spray painting enough trellis to reach over the whole site to open these girls up. Theyre turning into bushes with all the topping I've been doing so the nets are a must I feel like.

Stay tuned cuz I'll be tossing up another update this week of the girls outside

Nice. subbed. Also doing a swamp thing this year. 1st year doing outside. Actually ended up swamping kind of by accident. Went outside this year by following Browndirt Warrior's awesome methods http://www.browndirtwarrior.com/ .

I'm out there with 20 Blue God clones using tarpaulin bags lined with contractor bags (holes punched in bottom) and Prom Mix BX. I put 10 along the edge of the swamp in about 1 to 2 inches of water and the other 10 inland on the island as I was curious about the wicking effect and wanted a comparison. I put the clones outside on May 18th. As of this past weekend (July 20th), the ones in the swamp are over 6 feet high, while the ones inland are between 3 and 4 feet in height. I'm sold on the wicking effect of the swamp. I promptly moved the inland 10 into the swamp. Next year I'm definitely going to do a swamp tube/tarp bag hybrid.

look forward to seeing how yours turn out.
