Hazeman Mikado

Hoping for some input from anyone out there who has experience with Mikado from Hazeman.....
I've got a smallish sample of 10 babies developing. This is the first time I've used beans of known genetics, acquired through a seedbank purchase. I've read up on the Mikado from Hazeman as much as the searches will generate, everybody who mentions it seems to love it, but I haven't seen much about pheno possibilities...

Maybe 10 regs isn't that large of a sample, like I said, this is really my first ever official "pheno" hunt, if you could even call it that....

After 14 days post germ, in 9oz party cups, they look great!.....3 of the 10 just broke ground, 1 is a tiny little runt, and the other 6 are looking quite uniform in development.

Any and all input is much appreciated!

I have been looking into a great Old school bean for my small group to cross with my Nyvia II plant

I dont want to copy or take away from the great stuff done already so why not go the other end and start at an oldies but goodies

It was a Federation Seed called Mikado I have very limited information on them
I just want to know how or if the gene pool has been lost or if you can help me
this is what I know from reading on it only its mostly Indica OK but from where ?

Mikado was made by the Federation seed company. With a long jagged single leaf pattern indica plant

This is a BURB from HAZEMAN SEEDS:
Hazeman seeds wanted to preserve one more good old strain. And have everyone enjoy it. Mikado is predominantly Indica, quick maturing, large-yielding strain. With a long jagged single leaf pattern. Mikado can be harvested 45 days after flowering is started. Perfect for a sea of green. Long-lasting effect.
and this information was located:

Mikado is a fast producing indica, finishing as early as August in temperate outdoor latitudes and as soon as 6 weeks indoors with desirable yields. A title for the emperor of Japan, the name Mikado is composed of the Japanese words “mi” (honorable) and “kodo” (gate of the imperial palace). Other interpretations give this term the meanings “God of the Sun” and “open August gate” in Japanese. hence is it a Japanese Strain ?

Federation developed this variety around 1993. Flavored like wild raspberries, this branchy variety develops purple leaves and calyxes during maturity. The buds are very fat and squat with distinctly pink hairs upon finish. Federation recommends growing Mikado indoors as a larger multi-branched plant, which suits the tendencies of this variety, leading to a better yield……… Sea of green is less than optimal for this indica, since it like to stay short and spread out. A terrific choice for outdoor growing, Mikado can yield a pound per plant and reduces work and worry with its early finish.

The Mikado high is a mellow body stone that is good for an evening smoke, especially when enjoying casual activities such as watching movies or chilling out with your friends
.

Winner, Nimbin Cup 2000

outdoor mikado from Hawaii the stuff just reeked very skunky almost roadkill skunk
or is that part hype and its from Highlands of locklushure overlooking the land of make believed

good luck

The classic real deal mikado from around 2000 had some errors in the description. It was a long flowering sativa which i think was similar to nl5/haze

here's 24 Hazeman Mikado running for a pollen chuck, planted 12 last season with only 5 germinating then only to be roasted in a heatwave, so this season planted 2 full packs & presto...all germinated & surviving(so far), tray is busted up after pigdog motocross antics.
ive never grown a full plant of Mikado before though quite a few on RIU have, and reports are very good, you chose a valid type to start with, if you want more of Hazeman's gear you can purchase direct from him for a wholesale price, just email him for a stocklist

Cool, that's pretty much what mine look like......
The root development is impressive, I used clear cups to observe moisture levels, and root structure.
That older thread on THCF linked above had some info towards the end about the pheno diversity, seems pretty easy to find the short Indica dom traits....I like the idea of "fast n frosty"

i like the fast finish and very good yield and smoke side of it too, thats why im pheno hunting a male from that batch for a stud role to other types germinating here as well, got plenty of headstash seeds in stock but none with a real solid yield ATM

I found an old thread elsewhere about Hazeman Mikado, from a google search, Hazeman himself stating if he was stuck on an island, and had to choose one plant to keep, this would be the one....
Could be nonsense, or even an imposter I suppose, but seems nothing to be gained by making false statements... Fits the bill for what I was looking for, and The DC Seed Exchange has very reasonable pricing, super fast delivery, and a ton of Hazeman gear. The Mikado stood out as a great choice for my current, ever developing "grade school" skill level....
Havent found a single bad review of any of his stuff, other than some potentially personal/ business/political issues.....

$40 a pack from Hazeman direct...with cheap postage and all manner of payments accepted...doesnt get much better ha, you should get a few others & pollen chuck with them, make a few thousand seeds? Hazeman told me any of his Headband crosses would be good to cross with the Mikado

I wouldnt put faith in that breeders description. It was wrong 17 years ago as the mikado is the second most potent haze ive experienced. It was described by other as genetic mutant super freak weed, my mind was racing so much the first time I smoked it that I couldnt figure out any passwords and banned myself off the internet.

givn the breeder is called hazeman I would guess he has a similar pheno instead of some lame 45 day indica crap.

A bit more info= federation was accused by steve to have stolen his genetics. Steve says that the mikado is on the tip of my tongue??? I cant remember.... ill get back and try and be accurate. It may have been ISS that steve claimed they stole. I still feel that the mikado had some kickass nl5/haze characteristics Everyone agreed back in the day the the description was 180 degrees off, not a sweet short flowering plant but a hazey plant that had an effect like bho before I knew bho. I coudve been a simple mistake but the classic 2000 mikado was haze out the wazoo, forget gth, get mikado.

interesting story, i dont doubt something like that has happened with the Mikado, virtually every major strain today has a murky history with various claims one way or another, though im still heartened with Hazeman's effort after seeing firsthand accounts of people who have recently grown it out and the positive feedback

I grew out federations mikado around 2001 and got my beans from Emery. I only run a few at the time but I remember it was fairly compact and fruity. I was at a friends place sharing some of BCSC couchlock with them when I remembered I had a nice nug of mikado in my pocket The five of us burned one and the effect was amazing. It cut through everything and had some legs. Everyone had a smile and we laughed for quite some time. Hope it has the same affect today.
