Hawaii Growers

• "I started smoking in the 70's and remember the quality of the highs were amazing. They induced fits of laughter, incredible munchies, made you feel uplifted, inspired and happy. I noticed a drop in effects around the early 90's. Didn't really know what had happened, but the fun high sorta went away. I shrugged it off thinking maybe it was my tolerance had gotten to high or just getting older in age that lowered the quality of the buzz.
  
  
  It wasn't until I started talking to other smokers around my age and slightly younger that I realized it wasn't just me. Many people agreed the "fun stuff" disappeared in the early 90's.
  
  
  I researched online for a couple months but didn't find many leads to help me understand what might have happened. However, I believe I've come to the conclusion that the majority of strains available today are more indica dominant which is not what I was use to having. Since I read, almost all the strains in the 70's-80's were pure Sativa's. I didn't really know the difference between the two back then. Nobody really did or cared. We all just knew what the effects were and we enjoyed it.
  
  
  ALL the strains I've been experimenting with since the 90's have been hybrids and I haven't had any luck. They make me tired, lethargic, anti-social and sorta dumb. If we would of been sold today's weed back in the 70's-80's, we would of cursed the dealer out and asked for a refund! Not kidding!
  
  
  A part of me also believes the plants of today are being bred wrong. I've always been a firm believer a "happy plant produces a happy high." The breeders of today are pretty much torturing these poor little plants. They force the budding cycle by leaving the lights on longer than what nature intended. Then they throw away all the males leaving just the females. Of course, some of the females may turn both sexes in a last desperate attempt to make seeds. But oh well, they mess with them also. Now they even have feminized seeds! Which produce only 100% female plants. Don't asked me how they genetically altered that but it's just wrong. These breeders might be correct that doing all this stuff produces more THC or whatever, but it doesn't matter. The highs are not good. They get you way stoned...but not high. There is a difference.
  
  
  Some of the best highs I ever had were males plants and it was not this dense bud stuff you see today. It was just dried, BROWN leaves. We would smoke this stuff and laugh straight for 2 1/2 hours! It would cause visual and audio hallucinations, colors were VIBRANT, everything sparkled to the extreme where you could barely see even squinting your eyes almost entirely shut. It was an instant good time. One joint for 5 people and we all got RIPPED, for hours!
  
  
  It seems all of the smokers today are all caught up on the appearance, taste, smell, texture, stickyness of the buds and all this bogus horseshit. But who really cares. They quality of the high with all this shit is lame. They've almost turned smoking weed into a wine connoisseur type of hobby. It's stupid.
  
  
  Many people (mostly today's young smokers) believe I am wrong saying all this stuff. That the weed today is way more potent than the "old school shit weed" they call it, we had "back in the day." They may be correct but it's not the same high in ANY way let me assure you. Being around since the rise of the popular marijuana in the 70's all the way to the present, I can honestly say that something has happened. The weed has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Either it's because of all this crossbreeding, or Indica strains or something.
  
  
  I'm sure somebody out there that is a true connoisseur of what good marijuana is suppose to be, has a stash and is having the good oh laugh your ass off kind of high. I guess we just need to find that person. There out there somewhere.
  
  
  I also wanted to note. I posted my beliefs on another forum a while back and got many responses from some young smokers. They said "okay gramps. For one thing, everything is more fun when your young. Your just remember your fun adolescence. Sorry your old now, but the highs are the same."
  
  
  For one, how could they possibly know what the highs were back in the 70's. They weren't even born! Second, if "everything is more fun when your young," and the highs are truly the same as they were in the 70's, they why don't I see ANY of today's kids rolling on the ground laughing, eating like crazy, smiling ear to ear, hallucinating, socializing or anything along those lines. It appears to me it's not doing anything like the old weed did. My son who is 28 and I go to Hempfest every year where there are thousands of people. Everyone is stoned. You can see it in everyone's eyes and smell it everywhere. But we never see anybody that truly look like there high on the old style weed. Everyone is just walking around like zombies. Quite, sluggish, awkward and too themselves. I wish we could of had video camera's back in the 70's during Woodstock to show everyone the difference. Back then everyone was extremely friendly, outgoing, willing to share the joint with you. We would smoke a joint together with strangers and would become instant good friends on this stuff, it made you break down your defense walls and ego and let you truly become yourself. It was very pleasurable. I haven't done the popular drug "Ecstasy" but my son describes it as this kind of high.
  
  
  All these young kids think us old folks are nuts and don't know what were talking about here. But let me assure you. The Cocaine we had in the 70's was more pure and the high was better, the LSD we had in the 70's was more pure and the high was better. The Opium we had in the 70's was more pure and the high was better. The Mescaline we had in the 70's was more pure and the high was better.

I need a local help please. A friend of mine came back from wintering on the islands as he always does and brought back a pocket full of seeds. Nothing was labeled so a grab bag grow. I started 7 in 2 liter hempy bottles, I've figured out most the strains, except for one. I got a boy and girl of this strain, it's a very fast grower and the branches are very fine and fragile looking, leaves are very narrow and long. It took 59 days of 12/12 lighting for them to show sex, so it's in no hurry to get to where it's going. And even though they were raised in a cut off pop bottle they grew really tall. The girl is over 6' long and the boy was well over 7' long when I chopped him out. I say long because I at 3' I had to make them grow horz. Here's a few pics 1st is the bottles so you believe, 2nd the girl in question is center back, 3rd is a little closer look.

Your girl in question is a fine sativa!! First off let me say, she looks GREAT for an indoor grow, you are doing an awesome job.

She is atleast 90% sativa, im gonna go ahead and say shes 100% with leaves that thin, she really reminds me of a thai which you may have.

She is going to give you problems as the grow goes on, expect a flowering time of atleast 14 weeks, sativas are notoriously hard to finish indoors but it can be done, and the smoke is so worth it. go EASY on the nutes with her, esp. N, too much N and you will see the leaves start to curl downwards, and the stretch will go out of control.

Keep weaving those tops into the screen, they will only keep stretching!!!

Can you give us some more details on where your friend got the seeds? Were they from outdoor grows in hawaii?
