Having a bug problem

I found these tiny white bugs at the bottom of my pots in the soil only. I have look all over the internet and can only find these pics that are similar to what I have. They do not seem to be springtails (tried spraying them with a 50/50 mix water and alcohol) and they do not jump. Can someone tell me what they are or if they are harmful.

According to my book it looks like fungus gnat pupa. I am constantly battling gnats though and you would definitely have some gnats flying around your room if that were the case. Anything airborne in your room or box?

My plants are not showing any signs of something being wrong. The bugs are staying at the bottom of the pot just in the soil where the water drains out.

We don't have anything flying aroung in the room or box. We have just noticed these bugs within the last week, so how long would it take before we noticed anything flying around?

Well in order for there to be a pupa there has to be an adult gnat to lay the eggs. I would keep looking for another opinion. If you did get soil that is contaminated you would notice gnats pretty quickly. You could try to hit your soil with some Azamax to kill a lot of the critters in there.

It sounds like fungas gnat larvae, as mentioned above. Cause the larvae can be found wiggling around in the water & they are what does the damage to the plants roots, root hairs & organic matter which weaken's the plant. I have used Gnatural, it wouldn't hurt. The adult gnats don't eat, they live to reproduce & just fly around... so pest strips r good for them. Gnatural u apply as watering into soil, Also Gognat,etc. on the market. Peace

Even if they r not fungus gnats larve in the dirt & some other kind of pest...water with Gnatural should kill them or at least slow them down.

Yeah gnatrol worked for me to keep them in check and its natural. It didn't kill them all though for me though, I used at every watering. Something that might help for the time being is topping your soil with a cpl inches of perlite.

well i found out these bugs turned out to be spring tails they jump like fleas.iv been reading and what i have read suggest they are good for the plant.what do you guys suggest

Hey moose, I just looked around the web a bit and you're right they look just like springtales. Sounds like they are mostly beneficial in your soil so I wouldn't worry too much about them but maybe keep an eye on them. I'm not familiar any more than you are but read up and make the call.

Azamax. Use it. That bug looks a bit like a Spidermite. God help you if it is. Azamax will kill just about anything. Except your plant of course. And its cheap. Good luck man

It is doubtful it is spider mites since it is soil born. Azamax wouldn't be a bad idea but for a number of bad insects, but if you're comfortable with your diagnosis of springtail then watch the plants and make the call.

Are you supplementing Co2? if so raise it to 10,000PPM for 1 hour it will kill all the bugs Be carefull cause its harmful to humans with that much though be prepared to extract the Co2 after all of them are dead!
