Hey guys, I just ordered two ounces of high CBD bud to immediately start making cannabis oil / phoenix tears for a loved one who would like to try it in suppository format to help combat a cancer. I am however a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information out there with regards to extraction methods and would like to connect with someone from here (from southern ontario or elsewhere) for advice and consultation along the way.

If you've made cannabis oil successfully and are comfortable with explaining/discussing the process please send me a private message for further discussion. Thanks in advance and be well.
Pm me Minnow! I can help you I make this oil every week. And am in Ontario

If there is any kind of popping or sizzle there is still butane in it and it can be harmful to smoke because its like smoking poison. If there is purge it a while longer. Preferably in a vac but just heat can work.
Butane is really not that toxic...Its the mercapthan added to butane/propane that is much more toxic.

This is copied from skunkpharms.

After removal from the crude oil, the gases are typically de-sulfurized using steam and a catalytic reactive bed, and fractionally distilled into the four basic gases. As fractional distilling separates the gasses by specific gravity, the principal contaminants in n-Butane at that point, will be Iso-Butane, a branched molecule isomer of n-Butane, as well as n-Propane, and Cyclo-Propane, plus low levels of heavier, longer oleaginous alkane wax chains.

Neither of the butanes or propanes are particularly toxic at any sort of reasonable levels. The following for instance is taken from a typical MSDS sheet for n-Butane. The Rat LD-50 (50% dead) is 658000 mg/m3 4 hours. That is breathing a 65.8% pure butane atmosphere and asphixiating.

so once you have some oil , whether your own or sourced externally , how do you check that it's good quality with household equipment?
IMO, you cant. Send it out for testing.

Burning it wont tell you much unless there is alot of solvent remaining.

Oh my bad I thought he mentioned testing thc not residual solvent. But yes they rock just tested my crop and a tincture and dispo weed and my tincture was like 20% plus thc my crop was 15%thc and the dispensary weed tested at about 2-3 % I love these I'm gonna test every crop I grow

Im very interested in these. Mostly their reliability. At $23 sounds kinda fishy. Is this the same kind of test WHATFG used? I think he mentioned working in a lab.
Even if these tests help narrow down a bunch of potential cbd strains to the possible one or two keepers they would be worth it.
I think low plant counts are going to be an issue soon. Best get our pheno selection done in the next little while imho.

I'll tell you what I don't like about these kits...the word detection implies to me that it will simply determine the presence and not the actual amount....has anyone made an inquiry? I would also like to know the methodology.

I had a quick click through the site and could not see any explanation as to the details of the assay. I am guessing it is straight colorimetric or a TLC, both of which are semi-quantitative at best.

I dig em... seems to have worked as I stated above. These are not the best you can get but for 15ish bucks you can't get cheaper more accurate testing . As we can't go into a analytical testing facility in CO to test your herb unless you have a licence for a dispo (I called and inquired) lame, but this test was easy and I picked it up in a head shop by my house. I will be purchasing again.

30 days?...sounds completely unnecessary, after soaking that long I doubt there would be any plant matter left to strain out. Maybe that's what your aiming to achieve?

Ya cant drink Ethanol either!!..lol...you dont have a clue.

Butane is really just highly refined propane and naptha is lamp oil, burns clean enough for indoor use. I've never heard of naphalene...just looked it up..same thing

A more refined version of naptha is kerosene

Oh and I hope your kids dont like jello or gummy candies...
I think he is talking about Ever-clear which is food grade versus using isopropyl alcohol which is not food grade and can make you sick. I use Ever-clear .
