Have you ever had surgery?

Ooorah! You probably saw a lot more shit than I could have Imagined. I met a Marine from the walking dead while I was going to my permanent duty station. Badass sumbitch was rocking his NVA belt buckle. My buddies saw some crazy shit, but the Corps hasn't had a unit number pulled off the roster since I've been in. Your Marines were the last to see fighting that vicious and organized for some time, I'm pretty sure.

I'll credit the Corps with that then, they taught me how to throw a punch without screwing my hand up. Jabs, joint locks, uppercuts, and throws were our thing. We never trained for that one-shot-knockout punch stuff. Haymakers seem to telegraph too much to be useful, imo.
Some of the funniest fights i've been in are with army guys straight out of basic or back from iraq that think they are tough shit! I have mad respect for our service men but not the arrogant pieces of shit that think they are better than everyone because they are in the military. I was going for just under the eye, guy ducked fast and I caught forehead with just my pinky knuckle! I trained for a long time, I know how to punch! When gloves are off and you're going for a quick ko in the streets shit happens. I didn't even know it was broken until after the fight was over. Even though I only caught him with one knuckle he still went down I was able to finish the fight!

What was it like overall?

Painful, was it bearable?

Was it tough, easy?

What was the best/worst part about it?
some were painful some were bearable... some were tough some were easy. the best and worst part of all of my surgeries were the pain meds!!!!! I LOVE ME SOME PAIN MEDS!!! although I know I have a problem with them so I don't take them unless I just had surgery!

That's where I attribute luck; I managed to strike more forgiving territory every time. I'm sure if I made a career of hitting people, I'd have messed something up by now. My nonprofessional record is a bit more vague than a record solely based on kicking ass within your weight class. Cheap shots, rabbit punches, and small joint manipulation are things that I could get away with that you never could. That's where the vast majority of military hand-to-hand usefulness lies; the military trains you to win a fight under ugly circumstances. Organized sports teach you how to win a fight where everyone is on a level playing field. Everything we did ended in a throat stomp, it's not terribly practical for MMA conversion.

Anything hand to hand skills or joint manipulation the military will teach someone I have learned plus more. 14 years muay thai and bjj are more than you will ever learn in the military, my older brother is in the military is in awesome shape and out weighs me by 55 pounds, I choke or tap him out every time! There are no cheap shots in a street fight you are fighting to win. What kind of cheap shot are you going to do that I haven't trained for??? hitting in the balls??? You better do it quick because if it's a street fight I probably have already thought to do that as I am out to hurt you not just show you that I can fight better. rabbit punches are worthless unless you already have the guy on the ground. Really training how to fight keeps you out of ugly circumstances.

Just sayin military hand to hand has nothing on real bjj, who do you think teaches the military trainers???

I suppose I have oversimplified. In the military, it's not a point system. I mean that I have physically had to refrain from striking a person in a way that may cause grievous bodily harm in "fair fights". If you and I were ground fighting for fun; I'm not gouging your eyes, dropping knees into your balls, bending your fingers in ways they aren't meant to go, or trying to introduce my Kabar to your jugular, nor am I inviting all my Marine Corps friends. Not to say that there aren't many equally effective marshal arts. I was more poking at the fact that most of them focus on athleticism and point scoring; which I (Apparently mistakenly) assumed you were speaking of. Some are still legitimately focused on destroying opponents as quickly as possible in an effective manner.

all i did was trade one pain for another pain. then i went back for a follow up and the surgeon is like..."so you think you can live with it"?...someone give me a gun.

Am I the only person that thinks Pad's threads seem like a flyfishing trip by law enforcement? If you look at all of his silly threads/polls/questions (that he rarely answers himself), if people answer enough of them they could be tracked down with the accumulaton of information. Sounds paranoid, however, the more info you provide about yourself, the easier it is to narrow it down. Like 20 questions. Just saying.

had surgery to fix my broken arm wasn't a big deal except they starved me for days cause they kept pushing the date back. waking up from it was kinda weird like coming out of a dark tunnel into the light.

maybe not leo but at this point im convinced pada is just gathering information for some purpose. i know people are volunteering the info but it seems invasive and odd

If so, what was it like?
So i had my Meniscus in my knee fixed. I got to the hospital, they gave me an IV, and that's all I remembered. When I woke up, I was told I proposed to the nurse before I went under. I couldn't bend my leg for a month. kinda sucked, but im lucky it was elective, and I'm not Ill. I'm very grateful for my health!!
