Have a question about Fan Controllers

Hey everyone long story short I'm going HPS expanding the size of my grow room and adding proper ventilation etc.

I know heat will be the concern I will be drawing air through the light reflector and carbon filter.

Anyway I want to know how I should operate my fan to keep my area say 75 degrees Fahrenheit

Is there a controller with a thermostat I could Install to plug the fan into and say it comes on when the temperature rises from 75 degrees to 80-85 or so and have it run until it brings the temps back down to 75(or a set temp.)?

This is what I'm going to be purchasing and installing in my new room going to be around L=5.88 ft. W=4.3 ft. H= 7.9 ft.

- Digital greenhouse 600 watt HPS Ballast
Socket to operate ballast etc.

-HPS 600 watt Bulb HTGSupply 95k Lumens

-Euro Reflector 19" x 11.5" x 7" deep

-Sunrise hi low hangers

-6" growbright high velocity inline fan (for exhaust) 424cfm 110watts

-25 ft. 6 " flex ducting

-10 clamps 6"

- Can 33 6" Carbon filter

- 50 ft. x 50" roll of 2 mil Mylar

Let me know what you guys think and if you can recommend a good affordable controller like I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that cap Therm turns on and off the plugged in fan to try and maintain the set temp. So if set to 75 it would turn on at 76 and off at 74. I don't know how close it will hold it, but probally within a few degrees of your set temp. I'm sure a more expensive one would be more accurate.

i'd just get the fan controller, thermostat is not really needed, when it's hot set it on max when it's cold set it on low. i dont even use the controler anymore i have just the right size fan i plug it in constantly running on max. if i had a biger fan i'd use it though

I have seen the fan controllers that control speed and variable on and off.

My area without an HID ranges from 69 to 75 degrees So I figure a fan controller that works as a thermostat will be perfect for my room to keep temps down without having to constantly adjust something or worried about it being dialed in. This is the way I want to go. Anyone have a setup like this?

Thanks Zem
Thank you Stonetech.

I just have my fans on the same timer as the light, i don't bother trying to control speed or using a thermostat. i think if i added anything it would be a high temp shutdown for the light in case the fan fails. one time i was dickin around with my setup and forgot to plug the fan back in, luckily i checked on it a within a few hours. temps had reached 100f, and my plants were almost dead.

Damn that's scary.

I'm hoping the fan should work fine for awhile. I read some reviews from growers saying 2 years going strong with no problems. I may get the fan and light setup and just see how well it goes without a controller first. Then maybe try something if I run into problems. I framed up the expansion to the room tonight well half of it lol ran out of lumber from garage and to dark be getting it out now. helping my mother-in-law move tomorrow and hopefully sunday I can finish the framing up and start drywall the outside of the room inside just going to tack up mylar on the frame I think.

I wouldn't bother with a controller just buy a fan with a cfm rating a little bit higher than your filter. The can 33 6" has an exhaust cfm of only 200 which is pretty low for your light setup. you could get an inline 6" fan with 250cfm for about $30-40, and if that wasn't enough add a 4" inline (80cfm) for an intake later on. Anyways, you definitely don't need to control speed as you will probably have that thing pinned the whole time the light is on.

Zem - Sounds good to me.

Stonetech - Yeah kind of what I'm thinking in that space will probably run constant to keep heat from building up.

I found this at Lowes or Home Depot. It is a attic fan thermostat. It just needs to be wired into a power supply and add a receptical to plug fans into. Check it out....DSCF2317.jpgIt turns my fans on at any temp i want.

It was 26 bucks if i remember right. I have had mine running for three years now. And you have to get a box and a receptical. It took me like ten minutes to wire it up. Its not hard but if you need a walk thru just let me know. The cheepest one i could find at the hydro store was like 80 bucks....its the same thing it just doesnt say hydrofarm on it.
