In have like 40+ old bagseeds my sisters friend gave me, I think they are at least a few years old.
They are all nice and brown and matured but i have tried germing several of them and the tap root mont emerge. They were in germ for about 3 days and nothing happened. I popped one open and the little white embryo is there and perfectly normal but the tail wont pop out.
Do they just need more time in germ?
Should i try freezing a couple and then germinating for better results?
all advice is apprieciated.

they may be bad, but just to be sure - are you using paper towels to keep the seeds moist? give them a week to be sure but if they haven't germed then they are bad.

yeah or you could try scuffing them in a matchbox. Just throw them in and shake em around a bit before you stick em in the paper towels. This methods worked for me in the past.

well like one of them popped and cracked a little bit and then i was messing around and cracked one on purpose ad the tail emerged the next day but then died.
i dont think they are bad because they have the embryo in there and there is no reason for them to not germ as far as i understand. Ill just keep them in germ longer. idk

omg i say this all the time. why cant people just put them in wet dirt and leave them be for a fucking week

everyone is so picky like you all have OCD on seed planting, has to be this way or it will failz

if i had 40 id put all 40 into their own separate cup and keep them in moist/wet dirt and heat them to 80.0ºF and come come back in a week

I have experimented with various seed starting methods and the paper towel method proved to be the least effective. No disrespect intended to anyone choosing this method.

I use starter trays. Just plant the seed in the medium, cover, and wait.

Works great.

You might try soaking them in water overnight before moving them to a paper towel. It wouldn't hurt to put a drop of superthrive in the water if you have any.
