Hash Grades and Color Definition...QUestions..

So, all the time I make bubble hash and get phenomenal reviews with it all. It's usually pretty melty and ends up as a brownish to black color every time based off of using 73 & 25 micron bubble bahs. Half the time when I make hash off of other people's trim, it ends up being blonde but people still seem to prefer the darker hash. I always put my trim in freezer bags and put it straight into the freezer. Although I'm familiar with hash and THC color definitions, I generally mix all of my strains together. Any idea the big difference between bubble hash ending up blonde, brown or black ?

not a clue other than some trichs may have been left longer and turned more amber? Be interesting to find out. Were your hands clean? lol

I can't comment on bubble b/c I have never made it, only dry ice kief extraction and heat press. My kief always comes out blonde unless I screw up, in which case some plant material will sift through causing a greenish tint. The hash of course then comes out the same color as opposed to the normal tan.

Yeah I always use gloves and yes my hands are clean to begin with lol. I know more amber heads would make it darker, but otherwise I throw out the two crappy layers of bags that look greenish. So, it usually starts out blonde and darkens up when it dries. The last time I made it, it was blonde, but even when it turns out darker, as I scope it, it's still covered in trichs and people seem to love it.

I made a bunch ended up with like 3/4oz and had three or four different colors. I like the darkest the best, bubbles and melts

Agreed anti, people see blonde and assume that it's the bee's knees, but the darker is so melty :leaf: :leaf: :leaf:
that is really not true. the color and the melt are not related. there are many tricks to make your hash melt better, most of them turn the hash darker.

Hey well im outside the country i work with k's an i know what ur talking about when u get the blonde hash in my experience u probably used light greens that might have been harvest a little early and the black one comes from darker plants that r fully mature and dried the high is verry good on both but the dark one is usally body high and blonde is head high*

blonde hash will turn brown if u heat it and press it. or even roll it in between your fingers. the only real way to check the quality of bubble hash is under a microscope.

the bigger / cloudy / amber the trich heads are, more body buzz.. small trich heads that are clear/cloudy will be the head high.

ice water extract color is dependent on genetics, stage of maturity, purity, and a few other factors.

Matt, what are the other important factors?

i have two batches of bubble from the SAME PLANT (permafrost outdoor), same bags,
one is blond dry and flaky, full melt, one is dark brown/black oily malleable like silly puddy, smokes more like Afghan hash.

here are the difference i can remember

Blond: Sugar leaf, done shortly after harvest, mixed with a plastic wine mixer in a drill. used 160, 120, 74, 20 bags, cant remember the time, but shorter than other batch. store bought ice

Dark: Bud, done over a year after harvest, mixed with a metal spoon, subcool methods. long time mixing. used 120 and 74 only, ice maker ice, whole and crushed.

so what was the reason one was dark one blonde?

i think the dark hash was from broken trics caused by breaking buds up, time, harsh mixing and the blond was whole unbroken trics. am i on the right track?
