Has anyone used the tek at the top (the sticky) "the easy way"

I'm not getting much of a response there so I was hoping that if I asked the full community if they have ever done it. Do you wrap the bag around and ziplock all the way around the jars. Can I fill pint jars till they are about 1.5" away from the top with the popcorn then case up to that point and get the fruit to come out with the base near the top of the jar so I don't devastate my substrate trying to work my sausage fingers in a jar? he says use a quart and through deduction I came to conclude that a smaller amount of substrate would take less time to colonize. Thank you and thank you again for any responses that I might get.

I personally have had pretty good results off of the PF-Tek which uses brown rice flour and vermiculite. The biggest advice I would give is to invest in a pressure cooker if mycology is a hobby you wish to seriously pursue. If you have any questions about the PF-Tek ill do my best to answer them. Stay safe, have fun and best of luck to you!!!

Thank you very much. I've got a Pressure cooker and I've read up on PF tek and this one. I'm looking to not have to create a terrum or what have you...

You are most certainly welcome :) !!! Sterilization is the key if you don't want green molds and other nastys growing on your cakes. The internet has aton of good info on the PF-Tek also. This isn't the most comprehensive guide and not many pics but still isn't a bad start http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml . Some people are critics of the PF-Tek and say the yields are small but for beginners it is definitely not a bad route to go. The strain I had the best success with was Thai Elephant Dung (TED). It provided an acceptable yield and was fairly resistant to mold and bacteria.

If you want a some quick shrooms, I'd go with pf tek with brown rice/verm in 1/2 pint jars. Fruit the cakes in a tub with some pearlite and water on the bottom.... get a humidity and temp detector and you're good. You should have shrooms within a month TOPS if you do it right. besides that, I always use quart jars with rye berry... and then verm, coco coir, and used coffee grinds for the tubs. You can go to starbucks and get their used grinds for free. Big bag everyday. Not sure about the right ratio/mixture. Been doing it 10 years so it's just instinct =\

You don't need to make a fancy terrarium for the PF. Just use regular rubbermaids 50qt or something. That's what I use for monotubs. Just put pearlite and water on the bottom and make sure the humidity and temp are within range..... put the cakes on a mason jar lid on the perlite, and wait... Fan them with fresh air a couple/few times a day..... add regular fluorescent light for like 12 hours a day. It's too easy. I haven't researched it in about 9 years, but the shroomery has all the good info.

I'm new to growing cannabis but I have been growing mushrooms for some time now, other then the pressure cooker, a glove box is also a MUST at mininmum. I personaly use a home built flowhood. using your spores to make LC (liquid culture) will enable you to to fully colonize 1 quart jars in about 10-14 days. i use 1 quart and put it in to 12qt "dub tubs" i normaly yeild 1+ OZ's dried for 3+ flushes. hope this helps. if you have any questions id be more then glad to answer them.

Home built flowhood is pretty extreme for growing shrooms. I've always wanted one to be honest (and mainly for other purposes), but have never got one. For a glovebox, a big rubbermaid tub is fine...... but I don't even use that anymore. It might be a must though for noobs, I don't know. I do get a contam every once in a while. I definitely agree with LC. but a 12 qt tub??? cmon??? really? You can get so much more for each qt jar using a bigger tub and doing it right..

So you fully colonize a quart or so and pour it out in a 50qt tub and case it then 12/12 I could do well for myself?

That's not right lol. I would assume you would have to mix it with a straw and manure or something.

Glove box is not really needed unless making spore syringes or dealing with agar, slants, etc. imo.

I never use one anymore since I started using self healing injection ports and SFDs on my jars and I haven't gotten a contamination yet.

I just heat up the needle with my torch and stick it in the self healing injection port.

1 quart in a 12qt dub tub of penis envys will yeild me 2 oz dried per tub. why would I need to go bigger lol? i can spawn run 1qt in 10 days into 12 qts....then take that 12 qt i know have and fruit it. from jar to finished product it only takes me a lil over a month. that is why I follow the TEK that I do, so I can use only 1 jar and if a contam happens im only out 1 jar....

best method are mono tubs, 60qt sterilite tubs, only thing is it takes 6 1qt jars to spawn run a 60qt tub....in 10 days.

if you take 1qt jar and try and put it in a 50qt spawn run its going to take at WEEKS for it to fully colonize the substrate. I would recomend 6qts of fullly colonized spawn to 50qt tub.

for the best information possible on mushrooms i would recomend shroomology.com VERY good people there to help you with any questions you may have, forums is like this site and very helpfull. they also have a live chat that could help you out loads. in my opionion i wouldnt grow mushrooms with out a glove box or flow hood....but I got a closet full of mushies so who knows maybe im jsut crazy but most people at ology will agree if you want GOOD consistant mush you need at least a glove box/still box.

dabumps, use coco coir and coffe to start out cheap and VERY effective, I can normaly flush out 2+ ounces at least 3 times. that gives me around 6 oz dried off each 12qt tub in the end before i toss them or they contam.

you can flush mushies multiple times, after you get your first harvest of mushies you can "dunk" the sub in water for 24 hours then dump the water out and put the sub back in to fruiting conditions and wait for more mushies to arrive ;)

you can flush on average between 3-7 FYI.

My method works very well. Better than PF, by far actually, and no, if you shake the jars, there is very little time difference between the inoculation of a quart or a pint. Perhaps a few hours.

HE LIVES!!! Hey man. I know I'm new here and I've only been waiting for a few days but boy am I glad you're around. You don't fully ziplock the bag around the full jar do you and I'm growing APE (wish I would have done some more research sporeworks says it's just a novelty strain and pretty slow(Huge bummer)) and cambodians. Would one size jar be better for either of those?

What is the benefit of running the Quarts? I was planning on the pints due to ease of Picking so I wanted to fill a pint half way or a bit over and leave room for a 1-1.25" casing on top and that would leave about .5" before they come over the top of the jar. Or does humidity hold better with them being deep or will it matter with the plastic bag? Also do you leave the corn out all night if you lay it out on a towel?

remember that the point of this tek is for the mycelium to convert and maintain their own environment, complete with high co2 and humidity. get wide mouth quart jars and you can be assured of at least a half ounce dry from each jar, WAY back when I was doing this, I could get as much as an ounce.

And, you can leave the corn out all night. Point is that the outside of the corn be moist at most, never ever wet.

No, just tent the bags over the jar hole, that will let air in but hold the moisture in as well.
