Has anyone tried the 270W Supernova?

I posted this in one of the stickied threads but didn't get a reply.

Has anyone tried one of these? Boasts a comparison to 1,000W HID at only 270W power consumption with a $900 pricetag.

I haven't personally used it but I used to follow ChroniCDoom's grows with it. He was getting some pretty nice buds with it. I doubt it will come anywhere close to replacing a 1k hid in terms of footprint or penetration, but it's not a bad light judging by his results:

No problem. He was the only one I've seen that's used it either. Check out some of the other threads in the LED section to see what other guys around here are using or for other recommendations. Good luck with your research.

They now have a newer model that allows you to place the bulb closer to the plant canopy

It is $150 and consumes 36W of power, would 8 of these be appropriate for 8 plants? That's 288W but much closer to the plants than the 270W can go

I have an opportunity to pick one of these up for 600 bucks. They guy said it was burning the tops of his plants. Anyone know how close you can get this supernova 270 to the tops? I only have about 2 feet of clearance over my scrog now and am running CFLs. If I need to keep this 4 feet away it's not going to help me any.

Alot of times when they say low watt led's are equal to a 1000w. They are referring to the amount of usable light. Not coverage or yield. Imo A51 and Apache Tech and DIY and Hans Led is the best way to go. If you need so save a buck and get china direct , evergrow, LG solutions are supposedly pretty good. That reference is from EH of A51. Also the cree A19 9.5w globes do great too.
