Has anyone grown and harvested without checking ph levels?

I have never tried a ph tester before but would like to try it out sometime for the hell of it... Ive been using just regular old potting mix that has no nutes whatsoever and add my own from miracle grow water soluble granuals... It has been a good mix so far in my experience of growing but soon to try other methods in the near future... I also use that natural spring bottled water to mix with my nutes... It hasnt been bad at all without a ph tester... But soon to try it out soon as well with the ph tester to see how it comes out...

Im completely dumbfounded..... lol.... I found what seems to be a descent one on ebay by hanna for 31 bucks... But then it says some shit about cleaning and calibrating solutions...WTH??? Is this really needed? I seen a storage electrode solution for 12 bucks, That does'nt seem bad as I've read you should keep the electrodes moist.. And how often do you need to calibrate them?
Sorry if it seems im jacking your thread op..../ Im just as curious as you with this ph stuff, so let me know if im offending you and Ill be sure to start my own thread....

I have a Hanna that I rarely use anymore but when I was using it with fresh batteries I would have to calibrate it about every 2-3 weeks because it would slide off by at least .5-.7ph and luckily my ph 7.01 calibration solution doubles as a cleaning solution..(you have to use 2 solutions for calibration...each runs around 10$ for a smaller bottle)

I actually ran into more problems adjusting ph and locking up my soil....now I never PH, use only organic's and haven't had a problem yet!!

+ rep for the reply man... Yeah I just did some reading and see that you need the ph4 and the ph7 solution to calibrate... Instead of the bottles, I found packets for $1.50. There probably for one time use only and powder form needed to be mixed with water.... Thanks again man......

YES! Grew mine in Subcool's Supersoil recipe and never checked PH and used all solid and organic nutrients mixed into the soil. Regular tap water for watering. All organic and tasty... They all grew well. BUT if the strain is over 10 to 11 weeks, I found that extra nutrients need to be added.

i grow in miracle gro potting soil mix and use their fertilizers, never check ph and haven't had any problems.

i used it in skool for an experiment using lime juice and something for the alkali but i cant remember off hand.

they can die from one day to the next especially if your adding nutes with out checking the ph........this is the most important thing you can do to keep your plants alive other than the basics like light nuts and stuff like that

buy the test dropps there really cheap and good..................

Dolomite lime is a wonderful thing. Takes care of all that for the low low of ~$4 for a 40lb bag.

Doesn't even have to be organic. I've used it with Jack's for well over 30 years. Same basic mix that I make myself. Didn't pH the Jack's or the water with that either. Just need to add the lime.

I don't use dolomite lime at all in my mix. But if I did I would use it more for it's cal-mag benefits than for it's ph buffering. It's the micro life in my soil that allows me to use non-ph'd water (I use tap).

ive grown for a few years and i never bother my arse with ph levels. i grow in soil and dwc, i dont check ec/ppm levels either. i usually have good yeilds.
