Harvesting Twice from Same Plants

Hey every body, thinking about doing something that is not very conventional. I have 10 nothern lights growing in 36 x 20 tray so space is an issue, they got extremly tall. Buts are devoloping on the top but bottom is not getting much light. Thinking about cutting down the tops when they are ready, and let the botom flower for some period of time.
Big question: will it be to big of a shock for the plants, or will it work out OK.
Would like to know your opinions, or may be a previous experiences.

ive done it, harvested the top half and let the bottom finish for like 2 weeks, bottom half started to hermie but i dont know if cutting it had anything to do it or if it was the bad weather we had. i actually asked here before i did it and was told it was ok sooooo.......

I've never read a bad thing about it. I plan on doing it in my grow this time. One of my plants is around 4- 4 1/2 feet so the bottom isn't getting as much light at all.

I'd say do it!

I ran into this problem once because I grow in a tent. The top matured much faster than the lower buds so I chopped the top then let the bottom ripen a little more and had no problems. The bottom didn't pack on any noticeable weight from the time I chopped the top, but the trichomes definitely continued to change, and the hairs change colors. No hermies or anything like that. Strain was Godzilla.

epfsi, I actually just fed water from the time I chopped the top until the end. I was unsure how long it'd take to ripen and didn't want to flush again. It did fine with plain water though I don't see a feeding with minimal nutes after the first chop being too much of a problem and possibly being beneficial. Moderation is key.
