Harvesting some of the plant

One of my sativa girls is coming close to being finished, well at least the two top colas are ready. The rest of the buds could probably go at least another 2 weeks. So I took off the colas, 45 grams wet between the two, and I'm going to let the rest of the plant continue on for a while longer. Has anyone tried this "technique" and if so did the remaining buds continue to fatten up?
Oh yeah, I really appreciate all the great info I got here at RollItUP.org to get me through my very successful fourth grow.:peace::joint:

Never done it myself but I have heard that it works quite well. I imagine there will be a brief lag at first due to the stress of cutting the colas off but then they should progress as usual. Thinking about doing this same thing in a few weeks myself, keep us updated.

Well so far the old girl is acting just as if nothing happened. The two pairs of buds which were left under the two main colas are very perky and reaching up as if now it's their time to be queens. I'm quite excited to see where this little experiment goes. Again MAJOR REPS to RIU for all the great grow info.

from what I understand, the THC potency has a lifespan. if you leave the colas too long, the THC potency will begin to erode. the best time to harvest is when 2/3 of the flowers pistils have turned a burnt orange or brown or whatever depending on the strain. 2/3 is the magic number for THC potency.

I cut the main stalk right under the top colas. In this case I had two top colas because I had topped this plant while it was in veg. Right under the main colas were a pair of nice size nugs growing off each of the main stalks...they are now the top colas.
I made the decision to harvest with the use of my trusty Radio Shack microscope. Most of the trichs were cloudy with maybe 25 percent amber. The trichs on the lower buds are mostly clear.
Thanks for your interest, I'll be reporting back.
