harvesting.. can i ..?

first time grower here..

so my plants have been flowering for a while now, i had them vegging outside, and brought them into flower. my original 70 days of 12/12 would be oct 28, but i think i may have started the flowering stage earlier when they were outside - naturally.
im using a 400w MH, and my grow is organic.

my friend who is growing the same stuff, left his outside, and has already harvested it.


the buds look tasty. top half of the plant looks better than the bottom half.
last night i sampled a nug from around the middle of the plant, and it got me very nicely high. im gonna smoke abit more momentarily, (also from the middle) if it tastes good, and gets me feelin good, im thinking about harvesting the top half of the plants only. then leaving the bottom for a few more weeks.

anybody have any experience with this? any suggestions?

also with a naked eye, what are ways of telling if the plant is ready to harvest?. i have no magnifying lens.

Buy an illuminated loop on amazon for 4$. It's worth it.

i plan on getting a loupe, but i dont have one right now, so its not helping me out..! anybody else?

look to see if 75% of the hairs have turned red. If that's the case, it should be ready, but in this stage if you wait a week longer you might get a much better smoke. Premature nuggets do not taste good or smoke well. So its up to you, but Id say wait 2-3 weeks or stick to your original schedule of oct 28th.

thanks for your input guys, i read in another post that week 4-5 pistols show, and i have had pistols showing for almost 2 months thats why i was curious , i think ill still give it some more time.,. just dont wanna do too much!

Mmm more than time i would see the plant.. search for 20% amber trics and ur buddy harvest earlier coz ur using MH... thats for veg, its lyk a winter lamp, for flowering it is better HPS coz its related to summer and they will indeed grow better and probably faster. We need pics... take ur time and make a good post takes u 5 min between taking pics and trqnsfering em... if h dont jave an smartphone and do it in 10 secs..
