Harvest right around the corner, I need answers!

They talk about cutting only the Main Cola off and letting the other cola's to continue to mature/ripen if you got shitty lighting...

I want to put my plant into 36-48 hour darkness (Possibly tonight, hence why I'm making a thread about it) because i need it to ripen faster due to space n stuff(I got a better plant growing, this one is just bagseed so i want to chop chop and get rid of it)

OK so what I am understanding is, IF I cut the main cola right off the plant, the other cola's/buds will still continue to grow and not feel shocked/stressed by this?
Can anyone clarify this?

Also since I want to put my plant into a period of 36-48 hour darkness.
Do you think by putting it in this long period of darkness then harvesting the Main Cola and then returning the rest of the plant back into regular 12/12 will have any negative effect on it?

If anyone can provide any more information that I might find useful for this topic or are able to comment on the above questions, both would be much appreciated.

I would avoid 24/36/whatever darkness if you want to do a partial harvest. my .02

i am currently partially harvesting 2 plants. put them into 36 hours darkness, chopped everything that was ready and put the rest back under 12/12. it has since been 2 1/2 weeks and the rest of the buds are finishing up nicely. i don't see any truly negative side effects, i will be going this route from now on since every plant so far could have benefited from this technique! just remember that the remaining plant isn't going to drink nearly as much, so your watering cycle is going to change a bit. good luck
