Happy frog and perillite how much of both

im currently using earth grow and its made up of sand and other stuff but in short it gets really hard when drying and i dont think my roots can breath. So im going to be going to the hydro store and was wondering if happy frog and perillite would be a good mix and how much should perillite should i use.
