I just bought a half pound of some purp
The joint wont light well, and the cherry is a blackish colour.

I assume the weed is not cured well.
Is there something I can do to make the cherry a grey colour?

It's just to damp. Leave the jar cracked for a bit every now and then so that it can slowly lose some of the moisture.

I've had bud that was just too resinous to properly smoke in joints... If the material is too dense it doesn't burn very evenly unless almost ground to a powder.

ive read that the color of the ash on your j or blunt is a good indicator of the purity of the weed. they said white ash is clean weed, but the darker it is, the more chems left in it from growing.. ie not flushing. i dont know how true that is but it makes sense to me and from my experience, the darker the ask, the harsher and harder the smoke. white ash give a nice clean high and tastes good. not ALL the time is it this way but enough to convince me, take a look at a cig ash and your joints ash
the cig is always so white on marlboros

Marlboro cigarettes are 100% chemicals, so them having white ash would make me think that chemicals burn white... by your logic
