GrowLux vs Standard Sylvania 400w HPS?

Anybody tried the 400w GrowLux series after using the standard HPS?

I've always used good quality Sylvania 400w LU400's ($17.99 at Lowes just down the road). I generally replace it every three or four flower cycles and I'm getting ready to change my current one.

I am considering the Sylvania GrowLux 400w. It's $74.99 at Texas Hydro and cheaper mail order but when you add shipping about the same as the local price.

I'd appreciate input from anyone who has used both.

Ive not used both but i know my growlux bulb has 30% extra blue spectrum. so an overall better light spectrum for the plant, also useful if u plan to veg with a hps.

Just flowering with it, I veg under cfl. The added blue is attractive, but does it matter in flower? It's a lot more $$$

well, it doesnt matter really.

the closer u can replicate the suns spectrum the better, that added blue gets u a little bit closer than the others. i was using my for veg as well so thats the main reason i got it.

if ur just using it to flower then the difference ud notice is probably minimal.

The Growlux will get you much better maturity than the standard and if you move up to the Hortilux Blue HPS you'll notice substantially more density and maturity.

Just a warning, I have seen several people post on here that the owner of Texas Hydro is an ex-sheriff and he turns over his info to the authorities. You might want to rethink your supply.

The guy you are referring to was in Houston, ran a single shop, and he did turn in customers. Texas Hydroponics has several shops around Texas and they do not turn in their customers. Most pay in cash anyway.
