Growing with MH bulbs.....

Hello, I have been growing with CFL's and fluorescent tubes and I was at my local hardware store yesterday and they have Metal Halide bulbs....I had been searching for something stronger and more prof. for a grow...are these any good? do they generate massive amounts of heat compared to a CFL?

metal halide is the next step up in lighting for vegatative growth. The HPS (High Pressure Sodium) for flowering. But yes, with both of these you get a lot more heat then cfls and require more air circulation and movement.

What kind of set-up are you looking for? I just started my indoor growing experience with a 400 watt MH bulb and reflector in a small case. I justput it in today and so far, heat doesn't seem to be an issue.
