I am a newbie, I will admit. But I want to know how to trim my plant so that it will grow branches outward, as oppose to just one branch going straight up. Its only about three weeks old too. Im using flourescent indoor lights as well.

if you really want to do that then top the plant in a week or two. once the plant gets more mature and the top of the plant gets further away from the lower branches, then you will start to see growth of the lateral branches. what is happening is the top of the plant produces a hormone that inhibits growth of the lateral branches. as the top gets further away from the bottem the hormone is used up by the upper lateral branches allowing the lower branches to obtain a hormone formed by the root that promotes the growth of the branches.

short and simple. you can top it or you can wait a week or so. youll need more light to support the multiple branches producing large buds. if you just stay with what you have, ide reccomend not topping and just focusing on the main cola. you dont want popcorn do you.
