One of my friends mentioned to me that he heard that growing near a walnut tree is not good for the plant...is there any substance to this? I have never heard such a thing and don't see an issue, but I need some input from you fine folks because I very well could be wrong!

the only thing i could see wrong with that is that the roots will fight for nutes and water...
but i havent heard anything else..

Black walnuts have a toxic substance in them (juglone) that inhibits growth of other plants around it, it will kill your plant, it may already be too late if it's been there long.

Thanks for the input guys! Luckily, I got to my friend before he put his girl outside by the tree! +REP!! THANKS ALOT.

this is so true...my grandparents had a HUGE black walnut tree like 60 feet tall and nothing grows around it. all the walnuts fall on the ground and and turn into this black gooey stuff and nothing grows under it...or even around it really
