It's called hydroponics, weather it be perlite or any other medium, I myself grow in rockwool grow cubes, I've also grew in Hydroton pebbles, it works great as long as you keep track of your ph and ppm's, end results is good smoke, he's not crazy, the question is, is perlite absorbent enough, I guess it would matter how often you feed.

Perlite works, but it's a pain in the ass. It tends to float to the top.

You should look at grow stones.
Growstones huh?:-D
Shit, I set up a flood and drain grow, just to check out what was up with the Grow Stones. Guess what? Those mother fuckers float WAY more than hydroton. Of course the stones don't float as much as perlite would/dose, but one claim Growstones makes, is that it doesn't float. Those fucking liars.

With that said, I would choose the small size growstones over perlite every time:bigjoint:

Hempy can be done in straight perlite. It actually makes it quite easy to flush, and is cheap. Just have to feed/water a little more. I do the traditional mix with vermiculite because the perlite drys so quickly, but yeah, its gravy.

Just seems to me there are better, proven, alternatives.... this seems like something someone would do if they were bored and only had some perlite laying around, christ vermiculite would be better, i bet 5 gallons of str8 perlite would be dry in two hours who the fuck wants to water their shit 5 times a day

Perlite has an inert pH, correct? Then all you need to calibrate is your water, which isn't always necessary anyway.

Hydroponics is growing in a soilless medium. A-z. Long as ph doesnt get thrown off by medium almost anything works. Personally, ima use a pallet of hydroton.
