Growing in soil = tasteless buds?

I know that this question has been asked thousands of times around here.. but I've got some things to say.

I've got my last 'ICE' plant going right now (from Nirvana). Today is day #51 of flowering (since she showed her first set of pistils).

I took some samples (plant has not been flushed yet, keep that in mind as well). I let them air dry for 6 days to get them dry enough to smoke. The bud tastes GREAT! But! It seems like the great taste of it.. disappears after the first hit (the green hit).

If I continue smoking that bowl, after the first initial 'green hit'... it just tastes like cardboard. That's the best description of the taste that I can think of.

Also, I got to thinking that maybe the potency was lacking in this strain as well.. But.. this morning when I went to the doctor, they told me that I didn't pass my last drug test. In fact.. my "Cannabinoid" level was in the 200's!!!! So, I know that the buds I'm growing out.. do indeed have fairly high levels of THC in them.

So, I've narrowed it down to this... as to why my buds lack taste.

I grow in soil.. and I believe that, that has a very high part into the reason as to why my buds have little to no taste.. after the initial 'green hit', or the first hit off the bowl.

I know genetics play a fairly big part in the taste/smell of the final product. But then again, what you grow in.. the medium you use to grow cannabis in.. will also play a significant part in the products final taste/smell.

Anyone have ANY input on this? I mean, do any of you happen to know of anything that one could put in the water, that won't harm the plant or its root system, but yet still give the plant at least some kind of pleasant taste?

I've thought about putting a few drops of 100% pure lemon juice.. into the water. Since I use bottled water from the store.. to water my plant(s) with.. I could simply put a few drops of lemon into the water. I don't think that would really hurt anything.. but then again I'm not 100% on that.

Anyhow, if anyone has a secret that they don't want to share with everyone.. feel free to msg me on here with the idea that you may have.

Thanks ppl.

I really don't have that problem with soil? I have started to use floran necter sweetner "Pinapple",,,I think if you put lemon juice in the water it's going tp screw your PH up big time? That's just my guess?

1. you didnt flush.
2. You didnt cure it.
3. it wasnt close to done.
4. 6 days is a long time to take to dry, did you have them in a non-humid area with good air circulation?
5. I wouldnt add anything to the water. Leave it as is.
It's not because you grew in soil, its because like you said you didnt flush, dry, or cure properly a premature bud........

4. Properly grown cannabis, with soil as a medium, is usually much better tasting than anything hydro ;)

im guessing from you post that you didnt cure. Curing is what brings the taste out in your weed bro. Cant skip that step unless your growing huge amounts and selling it.

of course I didn't cure.

READ what I said. Uggghhh. I knew someone would say this.. LMAO.

I haven't harvested the plant yet bro. I don't cure 'sample' buds. I simply dry them to get an IDEA of what the final product is going to be like.

But yeah, thanks for the reminder about curing I guess. LOL.

I grow in soil and have great tasting buds = ] I think the trick is to flush at least 3 times before harvest. Make sure you don't let them dry out too much before curing. Flora Kleen is good for flushing faster.

am i reading this right?. i have read countless posts made by you i thought you were a master grower, to now come out and say your bud doesn't taste of anything kind of leaves me feeling a little sad. you made a thread on how to cure, so i know it isn't due to improper curing that your weed is tasteless, im perplexed. i have known somebody to flush using pineapple juice, this didn't help, smelled nice, tasted like ass. in answer to your qeustion, grow big buddha blue cheese, if you dont get a taste from that you need to see a doctor.

edit:sorry ignore this whole post, i didn't read your original post properly, lol. must be the blue cheese

Thanks for having an intelligent and civil response to my thread bud.
Appreciate that. :)

yeah, lemon juice I think is high in acids.. therefore would probably screw with my PH levels. I was mainly using lemon juice as an example.

The whole reason I typed up this thread, was in hopes that someone knew of an "additive" that they've used before.. that doesn't mess with the PH levels in the soil.

Anyhow.. thanks for the input bud. +rep

I grow in soil and have great tasting buds = ] I think the trick is to flush at least 3 times before harvest. Disagree, flushing is for hydro and toilets Make sure you don't let them dry out too much before curing.Agree, you dry out all the goodness Flora Kleen is good for flushing faster.
I think some of the nutes you use has alot to do with it. I used supersoil on my last run, this time I am using some budcandy along with SS and it seems to be making a difference.

Apparently making this thread was pointless. I've attracted a few brainless people into the mix I think. I'm no "master grower"... not even close man. So, where you get that idea? I don't know.. but I'll be the first to tell you.. I'm no "MASTER" grower. Sorry you feel sad.. go smoke a bowl, maybe you'll feel a little better.

AND! for the second time already, the idea of taking "SAMPLE BUDS", is to get an IDEA of what the final product will/might taste like. Most people that I know of, who take samples?? Yeah, most people I know that do this... don't take the time to "cure" their sample buds. Once again, the idea behind taking a sample.. is simply to let it air-dry long enough to get it to where its smokeable.. to give you (the grower) an IDEA of what the final product might be like.

No idea where you people keep getting the idea that I "cured" the sample that I'm talking about.

Anyhow, I'll figure it out myself.. since the majority of you seem to have a problem with me, even though you don't know me. Its cool though.

peace.

Another helpful person.. that actually came in here and left a polite, civil, and helpful response to my question.

Need more people like you around here 'LOVE420'. ;) Anyhow, I gave you some rep for being nice and not having to throw in any sarcastic statements.. and actually trying to help. Greatly appreciated my friend.

Is that really true? OR just your preferrance?

just curious.. I figured that growing in a hydro setup.. or growing with coco rocks would be better than soil.

Who knows, I'll figure this out on my own I guess.

I grew some in soil that never had a smell and just tasted kinda strange...like at first I was like gross, and then I got used to the taste...or while smoking I forgot it tasted badly...it was super strong, but tasted bad...

a connisioure can usually tell hydro from soil, a soil grown doesn't usually crackle and has a better taste even after the first burn.

its not really my preference, just something ive noticed time after time over the years.

like i said, i wasnt knocking hydro...

soil can be alot more difficult to get a viable crop out of, vs. hydro, there's no doubt about that.

maybe its the way the plants metabolize the nutes, who knows...

Dude, what the hell do you expect from smoking non-cured buds? You keep bitching that your freshly-dried samples don't have good taste past the first hit. NO SHIT! Stop sampling and wait a couple weeks for them to cure properly. It's so blatantly obvious.

I have noticed the same with my smoke, but when I roll up a fatty the flavor is more consistent all the way through. Seems that the flavor is concentrated in the pistils and the pistils seem to be the most easily combustible material in the bowl. When the flame hits the bowl the hairs burn off quickly leaving mostly stem and leaf to burn on subsequent tokes. I pack loose small bowls and usually dump the last bit or hand it off to my old lady. Bless her heart, she doesn't know any better. When smokin a jay, the flame doesn't get to the hairs all at once so the flavor tends to last longer even if it is diminished by the paper. As far as adding flavor, I have had good luck using botanicare "Sweet". I believe it now even comes in different flavors.
