Grow Tent Temperature

Hi Guys,

Where should the temperature of a grow room be taken? The temperature at plant level directly under the lights is 82-84 degrees, however the overall temperature of the tent is in the mid 70's. I can see the temperature increasing in there over the summer so I'm wondering if this is likely to cause a problem?

Cheers

in my tent i ahve it at 85 top, and i think under the plant is about the same i just have acheap temp guage at the bottom of the tent.by the plants. but its good to keep it in a range of 76-80 is what i hear alot. but it also could depend on the strain. i have a double diesel going right now with temps getting 85-88 and they seem to love it.

hi stone. Take the temp right above the canopy. If you can take the temp in a couple spots do that. Also know that if it is 82 at your canopy that it is a little warmer inside the leaf structure. heat stress can cause a lot of problems. As the summer gets hotter make sure you keep a good eye on the temp. burnt leafs, leaf fringe, and swelling in between the leaf veins are indicators of heat stress. With good circulation fans you can help avoid hot spots in your tent.

temp under the light is also measuring radiant heat which is not as dangerous as ambient heat. You can get accurate temps on the tops with a laset temp probe, but that isn't necessary. If the heat outside the direct light goes over 75. it's getting too warm. Plan on planty of AC when it gets hot outside. This is why I only grow in months whose name includes an R.
