Grow Room Heating and Cooling

Well no matter witch way you go porta or window/wall unit , you will need to make up fresh air and exhaust some air you will lose a certain amount of the conditioned air in your 2 spaces (bring in fresh air =oxygen , So you need to account for that, besides the lighting heat load you will be adding to your rooms so you will need to get the sizing of the equipment right, if you are going with a sealed enviorment as it looks to me what your are trying to do, you might want to look in to adding Co2 to the equation ,instead of wasting conditioned air. that self contained unit looks good though ,like the 3yr warranty on the compressor ,but don't like the fact you will be having to get rid of the condensing water Via by hand . if you can add piping to the condensing water and pipe it directly to a waistline , instead of the bucket they provide it would make things easier.

Allow 4000 btu/hr for each 1000 watt (unventilated reflectors) make it 3000 for ventilated.

So unvented you can handle 3000 watts on a ton (12000 btu/hr)

Can't beat low ambient capable ductless mini split units. Stick with Mitsubishi or Sanyo compressor.

I am going with a closed system. I will be bringing fresh air in from the crawl space below and venting it out into the common area of the structure. The area I am working in has a hot and dry climate, so much of the time the air coming into the rooms will need to be cooled. The lights will be on a sealed loop and the heat will be dumped outside. I too wasn't crazy about having to get rid of the condenser water by hand, but it isn't a huge deal for me, I am a very attentive gardener so one more task in the room isn't a huge deal. If I can create a drain system I will, but if I can't, no big deal...

Thank you very much for your thoughts. I appreciate it

don't buy that. portable unit. I had a 10thous btu portable . and yea it cooled my clone room some. but never shut off. and I bought a 5thousbtu. window ac 100 bucks after reading a bit on line. the window ac unit holly shit. it was 20 degrees cooler then the portable o a hot day. was 95 out got it to 72 easy portable only to 85 ! using only 550 watts vs portable 1100 . those portables are not all what they seam . you can go t consumers report read about it. they are saying . that a window ac unit btu is 2 times more efficient then a portable unit. and they are correct. you can buy a energy star unit that cool and has heat. set the thermostat on auto and it will turn on heat or turn on ac or turn off to save electric. and there cheaper. now for those mini splits. I have done a lot of research on those as well they are way more efficient. but you and I . it will take 3 to 4 years to get the difference back in the extra cost. and a portable you will have to spend mega bucks 500 or so to get one that has a built in pump with a hose to get rid of the water , the window unit its automatic. I have been there done that. best ac is the window unit hands down .

With a window unit you have to remember that the water that the AC removes from the air and drains outside can easily be smelled by a trained K9 so If for some reason the K9 unit were to be walking his dog by your grow room and the dog alerts thats enough to get a warrant to search.
