Figured id make a post here since i suck at do it yourself stuff. Im a PC technician not a construction worker ;).

Today im headed to lowes to get wood for the jam of my cabinet doors. My ex friend framed out most of the cabinet for me so thats done. Here is a pic of the cabinet currently. I have to wait for my cousin to get some time off so I can get some OSB cut at home depot and use his truck to bring it home.

I would like some opinions on how to set it up and everything though. Im gonna be using a 400 HPS, and this combo from HTG to exhaust the room.

I may insulate the cabinet against sound but im going to wait until i get the fan and filter to see how loud it actually is.

So would you guys recommend having the fan blow throught the filter or suck through it. This will influence my sound proofing because if sucking through it will work i can have my fan in the closet (so sound should be ok).

Well im off to buy my wood and get it cut.

I wish the chat was up lol

it depends on the wall its against.
it will get pretty warm in there.. i have a 6 by 6 room and i struggle to keep it at 80 with a 600watt,2fans and a huge air intake from outside.

i would say get the carbon filter at the top and have it at the end of the line... draw the air through it... then to the fan then out.
i think i picked up a huge fan and carbon filter for about 100quid.
my fan was quite loud ...
i had to have it out of the tent and boxed with about 10 towels to keep the noise down.. but i think you will have a much smaller exaust fan. althoug it looks the same as mine.

i dont even use my fan because i worry its too loud...
also for the air intake have it twice the size of the outtake..
i was told to have it the same size but when i turned my fan on my tent almost imploded from the suction.

how hidden do you want the room...?
do you want it to be hidden when other are in your house?
if so i wouldnt use the fan .. they can be pretty loud in spaces that size.

i would use a smaller fan which is very quiet.. then you can run it 24/7 pulling in air through a passive intake..
then when smell is an issuse go for the big one and use it when sound doesnt matter..

Im getting a fan controller also so i can turn it down.

I stopped about half way up to lowes because i was thinking about doing the jam on my door and it didnt seem right.

This is where i get confused. Should I run a jam around each side of the doors?

Basically this is to stop the door from going back to far and create a good tight seal.

It doesnt seem to make sense to have it on the side the hinges are on because that side isnt going to move, correct?

Unless im just thinking of mounting the door incorrectly in my head.

Is this image ive drawn correct? (notice how the doors are bigger than the jams, so they rest on the jams creating a light tight seal. Will that sit right with a jam the whole way around since the part of the door that is fixed to the hinges doenst move in or out?

Ok I know it will work running a jam around the whole frame. I got that out of the way. I also measured the sides in sections encase my cousin wont take his truck up to pick up the wood for me so I can atleast get the top, and sides done and ill just have to find a way to get the doors home.

Im gonna do mylar. I might put the mylar on top of egg crate foam depending if i need the noise reduction.

I didnt buy my wood yet for the jam, im either gonna do it today or tomorrow. Its kinda hard for me to do stuff myself cause of the bad disc in my back :(.

You think i should just hold the jam on to the frame with finishing nails or should i use small screws?

Damn it, some of the wood i got was bowed, i forgot to check. Can you un-bow wood? By putting like 100-200 lbs of weight on it for a while?

I think ill return the 2 badly bowed pieces later on

I still need to get the OSB for the outside walls.

Well it seems the whole cabinet frame is not plum because the floor and ceiling are crooked. This sucks, i have most of the jam up, ill be taking pictures soon here. I have to get 1 more piece of wood to finish it.

Yeah, i think it wont be too bad and the doors and the jam should still overlap stopping light leaks.

Im gonna grab another board and then finish up the jam tomorrow i hope. Ill get the sides cut soon i gotta wait on my cousin for the doors. It should only come to like 50 - 60 bucks total for the cabinet, then 185 for fan and filter, maybe 10-20 for pots, i have miracle grow nutes already, 20 for the fan speed controller and 20 for a ph meter. If i dont need to sound proof it thats all ill need. Sound proofing will probably be another hundred. Im sure ill make it all back in 1-2 grows. esp if i get 8 oz +
