just a world of advice that pH pen is usually WAY off. other than that goodluck :D
Thanks for the heads up, I also have my Hanna MultiMeter Pen that I can test the water/nutrients with before adding to the pots and the run off.

if your in a good soil .. specially one that is organic with worm casting aso and specially if you use some kind of Lime in your soil mix ..
you don't have to bother to much about PH unless its totaly off .. the soil`s micro life will take care of it ..

tho try to get it some where between 6 and 7 .. not so important how accurate you are in soil .. PH pens is for hydro guys in my opinion ..

PH pens is for hydro guys in my opinion ..
Yeah I did a lot of hydro growing in the past, so this time I am trying to go with something that is going to be a little less time consuming and doesn’t require me to run so much equipment. As for the Hanna Pen, I always check the measurements of my water/nutrient mix before adding it to my soilless mix, that way I can have an idea of what’s going in. My plan for this grow is to try and feed my plants just enough so that I will not have any run-off, this way I can try and control the possible mold problem and fungus build up at the bottom of the pots.

well it don't hurt to be precise and trying to get it on a even 6,5 will only help your soil ...

but in general .. soil is forgiven .. both when it comes to water .. nuts and PH ..

my tap water is clean (Im in Denmark wher we do a lot for that) so I don't have any clorin in it .. so only reason why I keep it out for a day is to get room temperatures .. its ground water .. stored in lime stone so PH is a bit on the high (7,4 according to my water plant)

but my plants don't seems to mind ..
also .. it often end up being a even 7 when Im done adding nuts .. in flowering its acctualy spot on (6,5) when I add more nuts ..

Don't some nutrients after mixed with water retain a set PH? (if I'm asking that right)

Okay, here was the idea that I was hoping would work to get them started after germination.

Here is the room with the 600 watt HPS on standby and ready to go and is set at 3' above the tops of the nusery pots.

Just a quick update, checked on the status of the 4 seeds in germination, 2:4 are starting to show signs of life. I will wait till I return home from work to update with some photos and hope that the remaining 2 seeds pop.

Just as I hope... YES, 4:4 seeds have popped and I’m ready to “git-r-dun”! So what I have done is I set up a 1gal bottle of water at right around 6.0-6.5ph and poured some into a spray bottle. I tried to get just about the top 1/4” of the soilless mix wet with a little bit more in the center where the seed will go.

The temp in the tent is around 73-78 degrees and I am using the two T8 7800K lights that I had just collecting dust and figured they should work for starting the seeds until I kick on the 600. I figured I will start my growth date at today 10-01-2012 because that’s when the main root showed life and was planted, which was perfect because I was able to start on a Monday and the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] of the month.

What I did was I took the tip of and old meter to get a nice hole for the seeds. Then I found a way to turn the lights so that I can get as much light as I can.

(Day 2 - 10/02/2012 Update): 2 of the 4 are starting to show life above the soil. At this time I have changed the the light cycle of the T8's from 24hrs on to 18:6 (lights on at 6am off at midnight).

(Day 3 - 10/03/2012 Update): Came home to find to find that I haven't burned the house down yet which is always a good sign. But the great news was to see life in all four (4) plants (running around happy).

(10-04-2012) Day 4

- All plants have opened above the soilless mix and are slowly starting to show their first sets of leafs.

- Had to switch to the 600w HPS sooner then I had planned. The problem that I had run into was the plants were touching the T8 bulbs and I didn’t want to run the risk of burning the plants. The 600w HSP is about 4’ (give or take) away from the tops of the pots. I know that having the HPS so high may/will cause the plants to stretch but I am working with a space and heat issue.

- At this time the temps are around 78-82 degrees.

(10-09-2012) Day 9

  • All plants are starting to show their 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] sets leaves.
  • Started watering with nutrients today, mixed 1 gal water with: Micro 8 ml/gal | Bloom 5 ml/gal | Grow 15 ml/gal. Gave each plant 5oz of mix to see how they take it and will water with mix until the 1 gal is gone. If plants take well to the nutrients, I will mix up some more and continue the feed schedule.
  • Temps are around 70-72f at night and 81-83f during the day. Looking to get the parts I need to set up my 4” inline fan but money is tight.

I'm running nothing more then a 600 watt hps and a fan inside a 4'x4'x7' tent that is in a spare room so I can leave it open for now.
