Whats up guysbongsmilie new to the forum have been reading alot of threads on here, and i have some ?? maybe some of you can help me with,I am a first time grower, well second time but the crap i came out with the first time a few years ago dont count :dunce:

i want to get started building my box, but i am confused on the lighting and vent,

the box i want to make will be 3'long 2' wide and 6'tall with a vegg shelf on top. i am thinking of running a 400W HPS, i have been looking at the cool tube and a few others, from the sweet links on the site. what size cfm fan would i want to use for this box? can i start with a homemade filter, then to the light tube with a fan on the other side of the tube to the outside vent or do i need to run 2 seperate fan systems, 1 dedicated for the light and 1 dedicated for the odor?
any info is appriciated, i am wanting to build the box right the 1st time, and get the right equipment to minimze any costly mistakes..

400 watt MH/HPS

3 X 4 X 7 grow box

Sun systems air cooled reflector

190 CFM FAN sucking air thru the light and Charcoal filter. (using a speed controller on the lowest setting, plenty of air flow)

Peace - :blsmoke:

cool thanks for the link they have some low price, what about there lighting?? is it worth it or should i buy a more "name"brand..

this light will fit my room better and seems super cheap compared to the local stores i found.
or this

has a digital ballast, but my room is going to be 24" deep and this light is 21 1/2" wide..

For that small of an area, you might want to think about a 250 watt system.

I would check and see where the vendor is located. If the ballast goes bad (happened to me) you will have to pay shipping.

I would go local with anything that will stop you dead in your tracks

But the prices look great.

Where did you get a speed controller for your fan?

I'm in a similar situation. I figured this would be the place to ask instead of starting another thread. Anywho, 2.5x2.5x4 space, one 50-70w mh and one 150 hps, both in the same cool tube. but Stealth and energy consumption are a factor. Can a computer case fan pull through a carbon filter fast enough to get 5x an hour air exchange? How about a series of them? A 190 cfm seems huge and like an irrational amount of overkill for just over 28 cu.ft. What about a bathroom exhaust fan?

BoomOops,

You are right, 190 CFM is a lot for my 72 cu. ft. , even with the speed controller. When I was building it people were saying I needed a 450 CFM, ha ! I went to the Hydro store and had them turn them on for me so I could hear what they sounded like. The 450 CFM sounded like a Jet Engine, coulda hit it with some kerosine and it would have taken off.

I also have a very small Veg Box w/CFL's which I ventilate with computer fans. 1 blowing in near the bottom and another sucking out at the top. Works very well. I also have a Phototron which is about the size of you container and I use 4 X computer fans.

I would try the inline fan. You may be able to add more ventilation later. And maybe someone has experience with the configuration you are talking about.

ya the shop i go to hear all say 6" inline 400cfm ect..but i know they just want to sell a more expensive fan.. i might try a 4" in line like you posted above, but i think i am going to stick with the 400 wat hps..
