Greyskull's Trimbox Technique

Aloha everyone.

I hate trimming with scissors. Actually, I just hate trimming in general. It takes forvever, its messy, and it's a necessary pain in the ass part of the growing equation (unless you hire professional trimmers).
So I bought a Trimbox and have been a happy camper ever since.

Before I get to my technique here's a few Q's I've been hit with before...

"Doesn't it take off all your trichs?" NO. Not if you immediately trim your buds after chopping them off the plant.
"Doesn't it make your buds look bad?" NO. As long as you "feel" your way thru the action you will have beautiful buds. DO NOT PUSH BUDS THRU THE GRATE!
"Isn't that thing loud?" YES. Its like a lawn mower - plan to use it accordingly.

Step 1 - select plant.

Step 2 - remove big fan leaves.

Step 3 - cut off branches into nice "drumsticks"

Step 4 - gather "drumsticks" and keep near Trimbox

Step 5 -BEFORE PASSING OVER THE TRIMBOX

Step 6 - Gently pass buds over the grate. Be sure to rotate the stem
to trim all over buds.

Step 7 - AFTER PASSING OVER THE TRIMBOX

Step 8 - DONE and on to the next...

Step 9 - time to hang them up...

Step 10 - Hanging.... in primo conditions (70-75f, 40-45rh) buds will be dry in about 4 days.

Here's the chopped up SDxSB hanging to dry...

Once the buds are snapping off of the branches (they are dry), the buds will be cleaned up (to remove excess fan leaves.. will be super easy as they wil pretty much fall right off the branches with minimal effort) before
being weighed and either moved or placed into jars for cure.

BTW the buds on those 2 racks ended up being 580g of top shelf SDxSB....

Depends on how long the dried crop stays in the jars!
My buds are totally smokable (highly potent & enjoyable) when dry, so they are ready for market when I feel they are ready to come off the branches.
I like smoking my fresh dried buds very much, though I wish I could cure for a week... but when the buyer wants to see me, the buyer wants to see me....

I know its not the "sexy" answer but its also the truth.

That said, the stash that I set aside for myself (1oz per crop) gets to cure for as long as I don't smoke it all... which is usually about 3-4 weeks and then I am working on the next crop.

So how long would it have taken you to trim 580g worth of bud by hand, and how long did it take you to do it with the machine?
it took the one man show about 6 hours of constant clipping to take down an LB (454g) while using my friend the Trimbox I can really be done in 2.5-3 hours. Of course there is the extra 90min of "clean up" after the buds are dry.... but its still less time overall than sitting with a pair of fiskars getting mad imo

good eye. I do a 2 part trim process.... I call it "cut & style"....

Once the buds are snapping off of the branches (they are dry!!!), the buds are cleaned up - by removing the excess leaf.. which is super easy because it pretty much seperates & falls right out and off of the buds with almost no effort - to give them that nice clean all bud style.

I keep meaing to snap pictures of my finished product but I always get rid of it before I rememberto break out the camera....
I am chopping the latest crop on Friday.... I will be sure to snap some pics of the buds before during & after

Nice idea, but like GT I like to get a little closer. So you let those leafs crisp up and trim again? do you notice any difference in aroma/potency opposed to a well-groomed bud right away?
do you make hash?

exactly I'll let the remaining crisp up so it comes off nice and easy and I don;t have to worry about chooping into the buds. Its cool to see the leaves wrap around the buds forms like a protective cocoon of sorts. THAT SECONDARY TRIM STUFF IS THE POOP. Its almost like buds... great for Js, vaping... cooking...

I've seen the Grape Romulan given a "military" trim (super duper close shave) and the popular "hang it up after chopping it at the base until its dry then remove the leaves" trim... I thought the buds smelled and smoked/tasted the same, and there was no loss, OR GAIN, in potency or aroma with either.

All thats said, I personallydon't care for the look of the tight "military" cuts ...
Have you ever had "Sugar In The Raw" sugar packets? Thise big raw granules of sugar.... I like a raw beefy cut... not leafy at all (leaf sucks I HATE getting buds wrapped in leaves), but raw and beefy if that makes sense.

nice thats cool i wanted to buy a trimmer but i dont think im going to be harvesting that much bud that i would really need a trimmer and they are a bit pricey,
