Grapefruit Grow

At the 4 week flower mark now, and I thought I'd update the journal. As I've said, this is my last soil grow, and the ones I have vegging now are in hydro. I also have 1 plant in dwc.

I'm not very happy with the performance of most of the plants. I think it has something to do with vegging under hps. The 2 plants that I vegged under mh are easily better than the rest, although they went in a week later. They're already over 3 feet, and I'm almost starting to regret choosing to grow a sativa. I'm missing the jtr's, but am hoping to get them back very soon.

I've posted a couple of pic's, although there isn't much to see. They just don't look as though they've been flowering for 4 weeks. More like 3. I'm sure I read somewhere that vegging under hps slows growth down, and can put a couple of weeks onto flower. This is where I get confused, if flowering is genetic, how come the plants that vegged under mh, and went in later have overtaken the ones vegged beneath hps?

Been a while since i visited this so-called journal of mine. i think it's because my dwc grow has been taking up too much of my thinking time.

I've been bending them beneath the light, and the 6 plants are starting to look like a forest.

I also snapped a couple of the branches almost clean off, my best buds were literally hanging by a thread so i sellotaped them back on. Now these buds have a very high crystal count, far outweighing the rest of the plants. She has continued to grow (as both heads are on one plant), and is looking by far the most succulent. As you can see from the last pic'.

The flowerers are looking good now. two of the plants have three decent sized colas each. The other three are doing ok too. It's 8 weeks today for 4 of the plants and seven weeks for one, the other is the mother plant and she's coming up to five weeks.

I harvested some of the lower branches today, they weren't really going anywhere and I thought the plant's energy would be best served towards the top of the plant. I'm quick drying it as I type this, so i should have my first little taster later.

Even though I am at the 8 week mark, the plants have only just started to brown, and I estimate I could have anything up to 2 weeks left on a couple of them. They are smelling lovely, and I'm no longer worried about the yield. Things are coming on.

Complete madness, the plant vegged beneath mh and 7 1/2 weeks into flower has about 5% brown tips. The other 4 plants at 8 1/2 weeks flower (vegged beneath hps) are not even showing any browning at all yet, and their buds are not as developed as the 7 1/2 weeker.

I'll never veg' beneath hps again unless I absolutely have to.

The mother plant is looking excellent. She is at 34 days flower and she has twenty decent budding heads. She'll probably be ready at the 8 week mark.

With hps you'll need to keep the light real close to prevent elongation of the nodes. Also you'll need to veg' for at least 6 weeks to get the best out of your plants. 8 would be even better. This only matters if you are starting from seed of course, clones are okay to flower from 2-4 weeks.

Thanks for the encouragement, and I'll be sure to enjoy the yield. Can't wait to see the whole lot go up in smoke!

hi skunk, im 2 weeks into my 1st grow, took 3 grapefruit from seed, put all 3 between kitcken roll, soaked and put between to small plates, left them in my boiler room and 3 days later they were cracked and a 10mm room was showing.
I planted them straight into 10 litre pots in my grow tent and put the 600w light on 18 hours off 6 hours, i gave the pots a a good soaking letting around 10% of the water overflow so there were no dry spots in the soil, i have since been watering and feeding them daily with 200ml.
they have been on veg for around a week now and all 3 stand around 4 inches tall and 6-7 inches wide, iv been keeping the temp around 25 with the light on and 18 when off, and trying to keep the humidity around 50%
all plants are growing very strong and look very healthy, i will post a few pics and let you know what feed im using. il prob keep them on veg for 1 more week and they should be ready for the flowering phase.
