I have Ken's GDP clone from his store in the bay area, it is nearly shit... The real clone of his GDP tastes shitty, WILL NOT purple without temps in the 40s, and the yield is just so-so. Your plants look nice but they look different than the clone, the clone looks more like a BigBud hybrid that does not get big.
Kens GPD clone is just a Big Bud hybrid with medium quality.
The odd thing is, on Kens website, his GDP seeds are suppose to be a "Champagne" varient.. Sounds to me like we have conflicting stories.

There are so many stories about GDP andveven Ken Estes GDP.Ken himself has changed up the story so many times I can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth!
The true original GDP's lineage is unkown and there are many stories about it's lineage.
One of thoses stories is that all the old school purple genetics (Purple Urkle,GDP,Grape Ape,etc.) are in fact the same strain under different names,or different phenotypes of the same strain.

Alls i know is that when gdp hit the scene, i got it. And it definately had big bud in it. I grew big bud for years and years before the gdp came out. Even though big bud had a million different phenos, it was totally recognizable. And thats why i always beleived what was first said About GDP being purple urkleXbigbud. I haven't tried any of those cuts labeled "kens". I don't grow the purps no more. Thank god huh

since i love the aroma and taste of this shit....um just glad i found this pheno...um gonna clone my ass off now...i been trying for 2 years to get this color taste smell and potency...so um gonna practice the perfect cure for my favorite strain.....MY BAD PHENO...DAM IT PHENO!!!

lol.... practically.. I put the Ken's GDP clones in the dog-closest after running it for 2 cycles. I am done with it.. I need more room for the real-deals; True Blueberry, Sensi Star, Black Dragon, and a few of my own creations, all dominate the Ken's GDP.

- 1994, clone it! run it! play with it! it looks pretty good. How is the taste? fruity? My GDP was always plain tasting and never fruity.

hell yeah, fruity and spicy is what everyone wants. I have the older versions of Granddads purp, extremely nice! large flowers which purple in the 60s, tastes like candy and sugars when smoked, very nice!
I lump Ken's GDP (clone) in the profile similar to Skunk #1, after all, BigBud is a Skunk#1 hybrid. His seeds might be the Purple Urkle x Champagne, which would be much better than urkle x bigbud.
The Purple Urkle is what I like, leave out the BigBud and gimme the pure!

Damm! Gdp is that old huh, cool. I was still getting by with huge yeilding strainsback then. I was driving up to humbolt in 1990, to score some unique flavors from a good friend, but no purps in my circle back then. We had some good shit were i was at to though(santacruzmountains)

I have it running now, Seeds were from Paradise and 1996.. I got 2 main pheno's, an Ogre-type that looked to be almost 100% Afghani-Kush, large flowers and long and thin hairs. The second pheno is the one I kept and I am backcrossing it to have lots of killer seeds. the second pheno has short and fat hairs which fill out to a very frosted spear. Some of the finest smoke I have ever seen. Spicy / hashy and the quality is insane.
