So, according to Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND), if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant by the rapist during that one (or many) event, she would HAVE to give birth to the child or go to prison for life, basically for homicide.

Now, I'm not trying to start a pro-life/pro-choice debate here, but what I would like to know is, whether you agree with abortion or not (especially due to the circumstances mentioned in the news article), do you believe that a class AA Felony Homicide charge, which carries a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole a for having an abortion? (Again, especially in the instances of rape/incest)

Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND), the candidate for Senate from North Dakota, once voted for a bill that would have made any woman who obtained an abortion guilty of a homicide crime — even if it were in the case of rape or incest. Indeed, the bill Berg supported does not even contain an explicit exception if an abortion is necessary to save the woman’s life.

My take on it is this, and again not trying to start a war here, just giving you my view on it, you are not considered a person until your mother has officially given birth to you, otherwise wouldn't your birthday be the day you were conceived or the day the little sperm that made you was created?
Regardless, I believe that if someone was raped, especially incest rape and became pregnant, they should be allowed to have an abortion. Any other action would be psychological torture (not to mention the physical torture of being pregnant). Not to mention the world is overcrowding as is, and more and more children are homeless or in foster day, waiting to be adopted. Most of them never do. So I think if they had a rape situation or just know that there is no way they can treat that child with the love and respect it needs to live a happy, healthy life, than the parents (and ultimately the would be mother) should be able to make that joint choice in the same of securing a good future for their children when they are ready.

My biggest issue with this though, is Big Brother sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, once again. As long as you are not hurting any person, animals, property, etc. then you should be allowed to do whatever you believe is best for your body. That could mean anything, I smoke Cannabis instead of using my pain killers I'm prescribed all the time. So again, if a woman makes this choice, it's surely a well thought out decision with all the emotional tidal waves that are sure to come from a situation like that. I certainly don't believe that a Class AA Felony for Homicide is an even remotely acceptable consequence for this. Shit, Pedophiles don't get anywhere near that, and they're the ones raping and molesting the children your trying to save to begin with!

Sorry, the article got me goin a bit. Chime in? :leaf:
