Good prices for a scale? (links)

I have a Tanita and love it. Model #1479-V, I believe. They are pricey but mine was a gift. It's over 5 years old and still ticking. Just had to replace the batteries once. I would not hesitate paying a premium price for a premium scale but that's just me.

If you want to check the accuracy of a scale, dollar bills (all bills) weigh 1.0 gram. Nickels weigh 5 grams.

Wrong. Dollar bills weigh .87 grams or something. And depending on the value of bill it weighs more or less. In other words, don't calibrate your scales with dollar bills.

i have never heard that before , ever. I have weighed out more dollar bills than i can count , every single one is a gram. and why would a dollar bill change weight because of it's denomination.. do they use heavier ink for the benjamins?

Yeah, same here. I was always under the impression that all bills weigh 1.0.

If bills weigh ".87 grams or something" then my scale should weigh nickels at around 4.35 or something. Every nickel weighs 5.0 and every bill weighs 1.0.

I'll do a better test this evening with more bills and more nickels. I'll see how much 5 bills weigh, 10 bills, etc.

Maybe I'm thinking of sandwich baggies weighing .87, but as far as I remember every dollar bill I weighed was a little less than a gram. Not to be a dick or anything, just saying, depending on how faded they are, it's not a good way to calibrate scales.

Go on ebay or to a pawn shop & buy a pair of "Ohaus"tripple beams & be done with scales for the rest of your life.
