Good deal on activated carbon?

Just found what looks to be a great deal on activated carbon: $3.99 a pound. Total with shipping for 5 pounds is $30.

The best deal I can find locally for activated carbon is this, but for $30 I can only get 28 ounces (less than 2 pounds). This is what I have in my current carbon filter setup and it works, but I think the stuff above would be way better.

There is no way to buy 5 pounds locally for less than $30, so I will likely do this anyway. Just wanted to post to see if anyone had feedback or if this belonged in the 'best deals' section.

My carbon filter is a design you will see in many of the DIY tutorials around here. It uses the 6''->8'' reducer cap and contractors cloth as the main parts of the carbon filter. But instead of panyhose, I use big sheets of activated carbon pads to cover the contractor's cloth. Then, you dump the activated carbon into the concentric ring and cap it off.

Just let me know if that is too confusing, I might be able to dredge up the design. It is hanging around out there in one of these forums

Good find, and it will more than likely do the job. But I could not find any specs listed on it. I chose the type I did after a couple days of research with respect to what type of activated carbon is used in pro filters, what type is used for scrubbing air, not water, and things of that nature. But like I said, that type will probably work just fine, most activated carbon will, if you build the right type of filter and use the right type of fan.

Do you mean the pellets vs the crushed up stuff? Not sure sure what specs you were looking for. I was unaware Oregon has an Amsterdam. haha

Specs I'm looking for are CTC rating, size, etc.

Oregon is Amsterdam, for all intents and purposes. I live in the dank heart of it all, Portland.

So UPS tracking tells me it should be here tomorrow, and just in time. My 9 month old DIY job with an axial fan is no longer effective. My lady walked into the office today and informed me of the smell, I have a no good sense of smell but I walked in there and was dankified. I have one plant in its last week or two of flowering causing a lot of stink.

This is good though, because now we will know if this carbon I found works. Plus, I am not too worried about the smell. I am legal but just don't want to risk an eviction if my apartment manager is not cool with it. She lives next door and could kick me out for any numkber of bullshit reasons for growing indoors, even though I have an OMMP card

Whereabouts (approximately) are you located?

I never thought about calling my local hydro shop. I thought they just sold filters, but who knows

So update: 1 month later and not a smell at all. We even had a family member spend the night in that room on the futon and did not smell any weed. It is a small room!

I packed this stuff as tight as I could though. And we are only 1 month in....the last filter lasted 9 months. So time will tell. But as for the question 'Is it a good deal?'....the answer is yes, for now
