i was in soil for a few years which i mastered, moved into an apartment and needed to go to hempy dtw.

i find that working with grodan gro blocks work well.

you pop your seeds and put them in small cube after conditioning with 5.5ph.

roots to an inch then they go into their home.

when they get big enough take clones (no need for a mom; you can clone your clones)

and flip 'em into flower.

in water, i've noticed they grow fast; need to be fed every day; ph pen and ppm is a MUST..you are NOT gonna eyeball this and without those tools i would not even attempt hydro.

i use bue lab and love them! i can't wait to take ph where as with kit..boring: http://www.amazon.com/Bluelab-PENGTB-Growers-Toolbox/dp/B00H90O26C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1418170682&sr=8-6&keywords=bluelab ph probe

these are the blocks i use hugo when i have a bunch of plants and mommas for only a few plants:

I've been doing hempy for a little over a year now so I'm still pretty new to it myself. I'll agree that you'll at least need a ph pen as this is hydro. Once you get your nutrient mixing down you won't need it for that anymore. For example I use AN pH perfect and I know that with my water when I mix it up it comes out at 5.8 every time. Where I use it is for flush days and now I know exactly how much pH down I need to mix I don't even use it there.

I wouldn't say you need a PPM meter for hempy but it also won't hurt at all as its a pretty inexpensive tool to have. Just start at 1/4 strength nutes and go up from there (either doing the full 3 part or using the Lucas formula). Just read the plants to see what they'll take - every strain is different. If you see it's too hot just flush it and dial down the nutes. Honestly I can't tell you the last time I used my EC pen. Just depends on how well you can read your plants.

I run straight perlite hempy - no vermiculite but I'm able to spend time every day in my tent - watering isn't an issue. Large chunky up to the hole and then smaller perlite to the top. I flush every 3rd feeding throughout the grow to wash out any buildup in the bucket.

seems I have upset a few people who don't believe just how simple a hempy can really be....I learnt hempy from the WOH thread, and trust me these guys know how to grow.

So I guess a picture says a thousand words,,,, this is what can be done with just using the basic Lucas formula and pH drops.
