Go on vacation, anyone try these?

Just watching TV and saw an infomercial for Aquaglobes, I'm not one to be suckered but they have decent reviews on Amazon.com and was wondering if any of you have tried something like them and have experiences to share.

Sooner or later I'll be traveling and don't trust anyone with my plants, are these viable?

I've seen those on TV too and it keeps hooking me everytime i see them. I haven't bought them though because they look like they wouldn't hold enough water inside them to feed a larger plant for very long. Unmonitored your plant will most likely go thirsty.

if the plant is in a large pot than it should b fine for 4-5days wo water,put a shallow pan of water under it,set the lights a little higher than normal,clean your area incase of fire so not much will b damaged,check your fan(s) make sure there on the right settin and then just trust yourself that the plant will b a-ok

hey i am going on vacation too. i am interested in some ideas too. currently i am experimenting with a water bottle and a screen. i have put the screen made of t-shirt over the opening of the water bottle and then turned it upside down into dry dirt. the theory is that the water will stay constant throughout the soil? it was an idea i got from the water globe idea.

I just went to the local hardware and picked up a water timer that runs on battiers just screw it on to any nosel or hose and away you go right now I have 3 55gallon tanks hooked to one timer things cost like 15 bucks 30 for the more pricey ones.

5 gal bucket, $10 pump and $10-15 worth of drip irrigation parts from a home improvement store, and a timer. Done.

I'd be a little leary of nutes in the bucket.

Oh an air pump/stone would be a good thing too.

Oh yeah, test it out first!
But you don't need a giant pump. Just one with say 2 or 3 foot 'head'
If it takes 1 minute to water them or 20, does it matter?
I get/use the $10 pumps from Harbor Freight. Work just fine (same cheap-ass Chinese pumps are the rio and such)
$10 for air pump, stone and hose at waly world.
Timers, I don't know or use. But figure abut $10 there too.

anyway, I said something like this. Those aqua globes would just give the plants all the water if they were dry, and if you watered them then put on they would drown the plants. weed like to dry up then be flooded.

That being said. I also said the same thing, a pump, reservoir, timer, and hoses n fittings. More like 50-60 bucks with the right timer and a decent pump.
Make up the system with your hose lengths then test it with just water and stick the hoses in gallon jugs and run it. see how long you need it to run to give your plants the right amount of water. youll also need a 24hr 7day programable timer.
