Gnats? What the hell are these? Pics

What the hell are these. I think they are little bugs that go into the soil and eat at the roots? Or are they just annoying little bugs? Also, i saw a daddy long legs crawling around my grow area, i let him live bc i think he might set a web and eat the little bastards. I dunno any advice is welcome. Thanks!

lol i let some spiders live too! I even decided not to squish one of those gialt mosquito eaters in hopes they would eat the buggers! I have the very same little knat things. I set out a cup of vinegar with a lid and a small hole and they keep flying in there and dying. I dont know how to kill eggs/larva tho

They look like gnats or fruit flies to me. I got inundated with these in my first grow when I began using molasses mixed in with bloom nutes. When I harvested I removed pot and all from the room and haven't had any problems since. I have two resident house spiders in my grow, I figure they're good ju-ju.

well i think i have plenty of spirders im my shithole of a house, the growroom is the nicest part!

Gnats can be difficult to get rid of as they have a short life cycle and breed every four days i think, try using a nicotine solution to water the soil or get a non toxic bug spray.

fungus gnats are easy to control a watering with diluted h202 and some stiky traps should get em and stop overwatering and they wont have a perfect envirnment to live in


if yor soil is too wet for too long gnats will love it.. a good reason to transplant so there is not a lot ov unused wet soil

Yeah I agree with the watering thing, though i couldn't get hold of any h202. Sticky traps will definately help but only for the adult gnats. A layer of sand on the surface can suffocate the larvae apparently.

try putting a thin layer of sand on top of the soil. the bugs can't get in or out to reproduce and eat.it worked for me when i had a massive gnat problem. the only problem is when you go to water it is very difficult with the sand there. but after a couple of days u can remove the sand completely cause they will all be dead for sure.

How do you ensure that the bacteria in the mosquito dunks are getting spread out in the soil? I was thinking about crushin them up and cultivating the powder in before watering but I have no idea how the bacteria are actually activated / dispersed. THanks.

i would like to know as well. i caught like 5 of the bugger in my grow box. i think it is as some one said, my pot was too wet for too long and i was over watering

i already have a small problem with these.should i water first and then add some sand?

aha.guys i read in another thread that you can cut some small potato slices on the top of your soil and that will attract these insects.i did this now and i saw one just some seconds later relaxing on the potato.hm thats nice we ll see how it works.

wat would having food in there for them? maybe to draw them out before you add sand? i would think giving them food would give them a reason to re produce

Fungus gnat,let soil dry in between waterings so they don't multiply faster

how about neem oil ?? has anyone ever tried that ??
